There is provided a method at a network node of a communication network, comprising: receiving an uplink reference signal from a user equipment; estimating, based on the received uplink reference signal, delay information regarding a delay profile of a communication channel between the user equipment and the network node and spatial information regarding the communication channel; applying both the delay information and the spatial information in precoding of at least one downlink reference signal; transmitting the at least one precoded downlink reference signal to the user equipment; and receiving, from the user equipment as a response to the transmission of the at least one precoded downlink reference signal, channel information, the channel information indicating at least non-zero coefficients of at least one channel transmission layer.

Improving precoding

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for beam prediction by a user equipment using angle assistance information are provided. For example, a method can include receiving assistance information from a network and measuring a plurality of reference signal transmissions from the network. The method can also include predicting best beam or reference signal received power using a model at a user equipment. The assistance information and the measurements of the plurality of reference signal transmissions are input to the model. Reporting the best beam or reference signal received power as predicted to the network can also be performed.

According to an example aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a method comprising receiving a message at a user equipment (UE) from a base station (BS) the message including a constraint threshold, receiving a message at the UE from the BS the message including a fallback beam reporting mode, performing by the UE downlink (DL) reference signal (RS) measurements, determining by the UE a difference between DL RS measurements, and in response to determining the difference between DL RS measurements is not less than the constraint threshold switch to the fallback beam reporting mode.

In an example implementation, the method may include a user equipment (UE) receiving a synchronization signal block (SSB) from a network node; receiving a panel activation request from the network node; measuring a plurality of beams received from the network node; activating one or more panels, the activating based at least on the panel activation request and/or the measuring; and transmitting, by the user equipment (UE): a first transmission of a physical random access channel (PRACH) using a first physical random access channel (PRACH) resource, a second transmission of the physical random access channel (PRACH) using a second physical random access channel (PRACH) resource configured for indicating the activating of one or more panels at the user equipment (UE), and wherein the first transmission and the second transmission are transmitted using a same transmit (Tx) beam from the user equipment (UE).

The method may include scanning for synchronization signal blocks and reflection surface synchronization signal blocks during a cell search at a frequency on a synchronization raster. The method may further include selecting a detected synchronization signal block or a detected reflection synchronization signal block based on a measurement metric of the detected synchronization signal block and the detected reflection synchronization signal block. Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for non-linear precoding are provided. One method may include combining, by a network node, of linear and non-linear precoding, for example based on specific channel state information acquisition from at least one user equipment, and generating two types of demodulation reference signals for the concatenated linear and non-linear precoding. The method may include multiplexing, by the network node, the two types of demodulation reference signals with data. A first of the two types of demodulation reference signals may be linearly precoded with one linear precoding matrix from a first-stage linear precoder, and another one of the two types may be linearly precoded with both the first-stage linear precoder and a feedforward filter in a second-stage non-linear precoder from the concatenation of linear and nonlinear precoders.
