Insulated conductor

The present invention relates to an improved insulated conductor with a low dielectric constant and reduced materials costs. The conductor () extends along a longitudinal axis and an insulation (&#x3e;) surrounds the conductor (). At least on channel (&#x3e;) in the insulation (&#x3e;) extends generally along the longitudinal axis to form an insulated conductor. Apparatuses and methods of manufacturing the improved insulated conductors are also disclosed.

The present invention relates to cables made of twisted conductor pairs. More specifically, the present invention relates to twisted pair communication cables for high-speed data communications applications. A twisted pair including at least two conductors extends along a generally longitudinal axis, with an insulation surrounding each of the conductors. The conductors are twisted generally longitudinally along the axis. A cable includes at least two twisted pairs and a filler. At least two of the cables are positioned along generally parallel axes for at least a predefined distance. The cables are configured to efficiently and accurately propagate high-speed data signals by, among other functions, limiting at least a subset of the following: impedance deviations, signal attenuation, and alien crosstalk along the predefined distance.

A multi-pair cable having a double jacket, including an inner jacket and an outer jacket. The inner and outer jackets each including channels formed on an inner surface. The channeled double jacket of the cable reducing the occurrence of alien crosstalk between adjacent cables by reducing the overall dielectric constant of the cable and increasing the center-to-center distance between adjacent cables. The channeled double jacket of the cable still accommodating existing standard cable connectors.

A multi-pair cable having a plurality of twisted conductor pairs. The twisted conductor pairs each have an initial lay length that is different from that of the other twisted conductor pairs. The plurality of twisted conductor pairs defines a cable core. The core is twisted at a varying twist rate such that the cable core has a mean lay length of less than 2.5 inches.

A telecommunications cable includes multiple binder units. Each binder unit includes a predetermined number of twisted pairs enclosed by a binder unit wrap. A foil free edge tape is applied over the top of the unit wrap with the foil facing inwardly. A drain wire is pulled between the foil and the unit wrap. A preselected number of binder units are enclosed by an overall core wrap, and a shield is applied over the top of the overall core wrap such that the shield surface faces inwardly for improved termination methods. An overall drain wire is placed between the overall core and overall shield. The entire cable may be enclosed by a jacket or sheath.
