An improved bleaching and laundering composition is provided comprising monoperoxyphthalic acid and/or a water-soluble salt thereof, a chelating agent capable of forming a substantially water-soluble complex with metal ion in aqueous solution, a peroxygen compound and an activator for said peroxygen compound comprising phthalic anhydride. A method of bleaching and laundering soiled and/or stained materials with the aforesaid bleaching composition is also described.

Bleaching and laundering composition containing magnesium

An activated peroxy compound bleaching composition includes a peroxy bleaching compound, such as sodium perborate, and an activator for such bleaching compound, which improves the bleaching effect thereof, which activator is a sulfonyl halide, such as an alkoxybenzenesulfonyl halide, preferably an ortho- or para-substituted methoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride, such as p-methoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride. Preferably, the peroxy bleaching compound and activator are included in a synthetic organic detergent composition such as one based on anionic and/or nonionic normally solid detergent(s), preferably also with builder salt(s) present, and bleaching is effected during the washing of fabrics or articles made thereof, in wash waters of various temperatures, even in water which is only warm. The bleaching compound and activator may also be included in pre-soak compositions.

Activated peroxy compound bleaching compositions and bleaching detergent

An improved bleaching and laundering composition is provided comprising monoperoxyphthalic acid and/or a water-soluble salt thereof and a chelating agent capable of forming a substantially water-soluble complex with metal ion in aqueous solution. A method of bleaching and laundering soiled and/or stained materials with the aforesaid bleaching composition is also described. A preferred chelating agent is diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid (DTPMP) and/or a water-soluble salt thereof.

A bleaching and laundering composition comprising a peroxygen compound, an activator comprising phthalic anhydride and diethylene triamine pentamethylene phosphonic acid and/or a water-soluble salt thereof. A method of bleaching and laundering soiled and/or stained materials with the aforesaid bleaching composition is also described.

Peroxygen bleaching composition

A method of bleaching fabrics, effective to remove stains and safe for dyed fabrics, includes bleaching such a fabric in an aqueous medium containing bleaching composition including a water soluble peroxymonosulfate bleach, a water soluble inorganic bromide which promotes the bleaching activity of the peroxymonosulfate and an N-hydrogen compound of a certain type, such as para-tolulenesulfonamide or 5,5 dimethylhydantoin which inhibits destruction of dyes and overbleaching of dyed materials while stains to be bleached are effectively removed. Washing may also be effected with the bleaching in which case bleaching detergent composition are employed, which also contain a normally solid, water synthetic organic detergent, such as an anionic detergent, which may be a sodium linear higher alkylbenzenesulfonate or a higher fatty alcohol polyethylene oxide condensate, or a mixture thereof. Such compositions and the aqueous washing media may also include a builder salt.

Aromatic activator

There is disclosed a bleaching composition which includes an alkali metal peroxymonosulfate bleaching agent promoted by an effective amount of an alkali metal-N-bromo or N-dibromo aryl sulfonamide; the system is especially useful in conjunction with optical brighteners.

Peroxy bleach system suitable for colored laundry

A bleaching composition, effective to remove stains on fabrics and safe for dyed fabrics, includes a water soluble peroxymonosulfate bleach, a water soluble inorganic bromide which promotes the bleaching activity of the peroxymonosulfate and an N-hydrogen compound of a certain type, such as para-toluene sulfonamide or 5,5-dimethylhydantoin, which inhibits destruction of dyes and overbleaching of dyed materials while stains to be bleached by the composition are effectively removed. Also within the invention are bleaching detergent compositions which also contain a normally solid, water soluble synthetic organic detergent, such as an anionic detergent which is a sodium linear higher alkylbenzene sulfonate or a nonionic detergent which is a fatty alcohol polyethylene oxide condensate, or a mixture thereof, and which may also include a builder salt. Methods of bleaching and simultaneously washing and bleaching with such compositions or their components are also disclosed.

Peroxymonosulfate-base bleaching and bleaching detergent compositions

An activated peroxy compound bleaching composition includes a peroxy bleaching compound, such as sodium perborate, and an activator for such bleaching compound, which improves the bleaching effect thereof, which activator is a sulfonyl halide, such as an aromatic sulfonyl halide, preferably a para-substituted benzenesulfonyl chloride, such as p-acetaminobenzenesulfonyl chloride. Preferably, the peroxy bleaching compound and activator are included in a synthetic organic detergent composition such as one based on anionic and/or nonionic normally solid detergent(s), preferably also with builder salt(s) present, and bleaching is effected during the washing of fabrics or articles made thereof, in wash waters of various temperatures, even in water which is only warm. The bleaching compound and activator may also be included in pre-soak compositions.

A packaged self-heating cosmetic, such as a shaving cream, hand lotion, depilatory, facial, or a shampoo, including separate exothermically reactive reductant material, such as 2-thio-4-oxypyrimidine or thiohydantoin or derivatives thereof, and an oxidant, which reacts with the reductant, generating heat. Means are provided for dispensing the packaged reductant and oxidant from separate zones and bringing them into contact with each other so that they react and heat a pressurized shaving cream or other cosmetic product whose constituents the exothermic reaction mixture contacts. The reducing agent employed is preferably 2-thio-4-oxypyrimidine or its tautomer, 2-mercapto-4-hydroxypyrimidine, or alkyl-substituted derivative thereof, and the oxidizing agent is preferably aqueous hydrogen peroxide.

Self-heating cosmetic

An activated percompound bleaching composition comprises a bleaching percompound, such as sodium perborate tetrahydrate, an activator for such percompound, such as 2-[bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-4,6-dichloro-s-triazine and a molecular sieve zeolite, such as hydrated type 4A synthetic molecular sieve zeolite. In a preferred embodiment of the invention a mixture of the described activator and diacetyl dimethylglyoxime activator is employed and inorganic builder, salts such as sodium carbonate and sodium silicate, are present, together with inorganic filler salt, such as sodium sulfate. Also within the invention are detergent compositions containing the mentioned bleaching composition components with a synthetic organic detergent, such as sodium higher linear alkylbenzene sulfonate. Methods of bleaching and washing and bleaching with the described compositions are disclosed.

Activated percompound bleaching compositions

A water soluble laundry detergent containing, an organic anionic detergent, nonionic detergent or mixture thereof, a builder salt, preferably including a silicate, a peroxymonosulfate bleaching agent, a bromide promoter for the bleaching agent and one or more of certain optical brighteners which are stable in the presence of the bleach and the promoter. The detergent composition has an excellent detersive action and is of improved bleaching efficiency compared to a non-promoted peroxymonosulfate-containing detergent. With proper selection of brightener acid or salt and judicious control of bromide and peroxymonosulfate contents in a detergent composition containing sufficient alkali to maintain a wash solution pH of at least 9, the ability of sodium bromide to promote removal of undesirable stains from a wash load of laundry is achieved with minimal adverse effect on the brightener and 'colorfast' dyed fabrics are not discolored or bleached.

Bleaching and brightening detergent composition

In a process for removing stains from fabrics by washing in an aqueous medium containing a peroxygen compound and an acylamide activator, extremely small amounts of the activator, e.g., about 5 to 50 ppm., are effective if the medium contains about 100 to 300 ppm of trisodium nitrilotriacetate or ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid sodium salt and an amount of the peroxygen compound representing about 3 to 80 ppm of active oxygen and substantial excess of active oxygen over that stoichiometrically equivalent to the amount of activator.

Cleaning fabrics

An activated peroxy compound bleaching composition includes a peroxy bleaching compound, such as sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate and a mixture of activators for such bleaching compound, which improves the bleaching effect thereof, at least one of which is a di-lower alkanoyl di-lower alkyl glyoxime, such as diacetyldimethylglyoxime, a tetra-lower alkanoyl glycoluril, such as tetraacetylglycoluril or a mixture thereof and at least another of which is a 2-[di(2-hydroxy-lower alkyl)amino]-4,6-dihalo-s-triazine, such as 2-[bis(2-hydroxyethyl) amino]-4,6-dichloro-s-triazine, a 2,4-di-lower alkoxy-6-halo-s-triazine, such as 2,4-dimethoxy-6-chloro-s-triazine or a mixture thereof. For improved stability on storage the activators and/or the peroxy compound may be coated. Preferably, the peroxy bleaching compound and mixture of activators are included in a synthetic organic detergent composition such as one based on anionic and/or nonionic normally solid detergents, preferably with builder salt present, and bleaching is effected during the washing of fabrics or articles made thereof, which may take place in wash waters of various temperatures, even in cold water.
