The devices and methods described herein are utilized to continuously track unpowered logistics platforms such as semi-trailers and intermodal shipping containers. In some examples, a tracking device harvests the kinetic energy of oscillatory movements of the shipping container to power the tracking device. In some instances, the shipping container is moving on a roadway, railway, or waterway. In other examples, a tracking device harvests the kinetic energy of airflow moving around the shipping container. In some instances, the airflow is caused by movement of the shipping container. In other instances, the airflow may be caused by ambient weather such that air is flowing around a stationary shipping container.

Devices and methods for tracking shipping containers

The devices, systems, and methods described herein are directed to buffering the electrical energy output from a PV array before storing the electrical energy in a battery storage system of the PV system. In some examples, a buffering module receives electrical energy from one or more PV cells at a first level that exceeds a threshold charging rate of a battery storage system. The buffering module temporarily stores the electrical energy before outputting the electrical energy to the battery storage system at a second level that is at or below the threshold charging rate of the battery storage system.

Buffering in photovoltaic plus storage systems

In some examples, interested parties would like to know the identity of various assets in a transportation environment. In some examples, the asset could be a tractor platform. In other examples, the asset could be cargo associated with a transport platform. Some of the examples described herein utilize the motion of a transport platform to power an RFID reader to read an identifier stored within an RFID tag that is coupled to an asset. In some examples, the system utilizes the identifier to identify the asset, which may be transmitted to an electronic device that is accessible to the interested parties. In further examples, a geolocation of the asset may also be transmitted to an electronic device that is accessible to the interested parties.

Embodiments of the present technology may include a system for tracking and monitoring, including a fastener, a triggering mechanism coupled to the fastener for reacting to physical movement of the fastener resulting from tampering, destruction, or uncoupling; a generator; a tracker coupled to the fastener, wherein the tracker determines a triggered event, and wherein the tracker switches to a low power mode based on an event.

Interested parties would like to know the identity o the semi-truck to which a semi-trailer is coupled. They would like to know when and where the semi-truck was coupled to and uncoupled from the semi-trailer. The embodiments all detect the semi-truck's identity. Some embodiments compute the identity of the semi-truck in environments where multiple semi-trucks are nearby. Some embodiments report the semi-truck's identity by wireless modem to said interested parties. Some embodiments detect and report the geolocation of the semi-trailer.

System for the identification of a tractor platform coupled to a towed transport platform

Interested parties would like to track the location of one or more towed transport platforms continuously when they are in motion. Existing monitoring systems are powered by a combination of solar power, batteries, and intermittent tractor platform power for electrical power. All of these power sources have limitations in providing power when a towed transport platform is in motion. Solar power is not available at night. Batteries run out of energy and must be recharged. Tractor platform power is not always available to a towed transport platform. The embodiments of the invention convert the kinetic energy of a moving towed transport platform into electrical power, providing continuous power for a monitoring system to operate.
