Video discs are cleaned with a water-based solution to remove water soluble salts from the surface of the discs, thereby reducing the moisture sensitivity of the discs.

Video discs are dried by first spraying the surface with liquid fluorocarbon to remove water and heating the disc so as to prevent water condensation during evaporation of the fluorocarbon, preferably in a fluorocarbon vapor.

High density information discs that have been compression molded from a conductive carbon-containing polyvinylchloride molding composition are cleaned with a water based solution to remove water soluble salts from the surface of the disc, followed by a high temperature aqueous wash wherein the temperature is from about 110.degree. to about 130.degree. F. These discs have improved environmental stability.

Video disc nickel stampers are coated with a very thin, e.g., 100-250 angstroms, non-grainy layer of chromium which imparts increased scratch resistance to carbon-filled polyvinylchloride resins during compression molding.

The addition of copper, either as a thin film or as an alloy constituent, to nickel-chromium alloys improves the adhesion of such alloys to polymeric substrates and coatings.

An improved metal coating for a video disc of a grooved polymer disc, a conductive metal coating thereon and a dielectric coating on said metal coating, wherein said metal coating comprises a film of a pseudoalloy composition of an alloy of nickel and chromium and, optionally, iron, containing from about 10 to about 25 atomic percent of oxygen admixed with from about 10 to 15 atomic percent of copper.

An improved metal coating for a video disc of a grooved polymer disc, a conductive metal coating thereon and a dielectric coating on said metal coating comprising a trilayer film of a first layer of copper about 25-50 angstroms thick, a second layer about 200 angstroms thick of an alloy of nickel, and chromium and, optionally, iron, containing from about 20 to about 30 atomic percent of oxygen, and a third layer, of copper, about 25-50 angstroms thick.
