A controller for a pH probe having a first interface for controlling a pH probe and a second interface for controlling a source of vibration of the pH probe. The controller for the pH probe has a processor coordinating operation of the source of vibration via the second interface and the pH probe via the first interface. The processor is adapted to determine at least two controllable aspects of the source of vibration selected from a list consisting of amplitude, oscillation frequency, duration, period, start time, stop time, and delay between the stop time and the start time.

Mitigating impact of ion buildup on pH sensor

A probed-solution disturbance controller includes an interface for receiving a solution sample signal from a probe in communication with a probed solution and an ion state detector that determines an ion state relative to a tip of the probe disposed for sampling the solution. The ion state is determined based on at least one of a measure of ion buildup or an estimate of ion buildup relative to the tip of the probe. A processor for the probed-solution disturbance controller is configured to cause disturbance of the probed solution responsive to the solution sample signal from the probe. The processor is adapted to control when the disturbance of the solution is activated relative to a next sample event. The processor controls at least one of following: disturbance duration; disturbance amplitude; disturbance start time; or disturbance stop time.

A self-vibrating pH probe comprise a housing containing an electronic assembly to which is coupled a vibration source element so that at least a portion of vibrations caused by the vibration source element propagate to the electronic assembly, the vibration source element being controllable for at least on/off operation. The self-vibrating pH probe further comprising a pH probe member having a probe tip at a first end, the probe member extending from the housing and mechanically and electrically coupled by a second end to the electronic assembly so that at least a portion of vibrations propagating to the electronic assembly further propagate to the probe tip; and further including a processor coupled to the electronic assembly for coordinating operation of the vibration source element and operation of the pH probe member.

Mitigating impact of ion buildup on pH sensor performance

A high-resolution in situ sensing system and method for providing continuous measurements of at least one dissolved analyte including a sample processing cell having at least a first conduit defining a first passage with at least one selectively-permeable wall capable of passing a portion of the sample liquid into a processing, fluid. The at least one selectively-permeable wall substantially resists flow of another portion of the sample liquid therethrough. Processing fluid is directed through the first conduit while moving the sample liquid and the reagent fluid relative to each other in one of a stationary, concurrent or a countercurrent flow relationship to achieve either partial or full equilibration between the sample liquid and processing fluid to generate at least partially equilibrated reagent fluid and a processed sample in a substantially continuous manner.

System and method to measure dissolved gases in liquid

A high-resolution in situ sensing system and method for providing continuous measurements of at least one dissolved gas including a sample liquid processing cell having at least a first conduit defining a first passage with at least one gas-permeable wall capable of passing the at least one pre-selected dissolved gas from the sample liquid into a reagent fluid. The at least one gas-permeable wall substantially resists flow of the sample liquid therethrough. Reagent fluid is directed through the first conduit while moving the sample liquid and the reagent fluid relative to each other in one of a concurrent and a countercurrent flow relationship to achieve either partial or full equilibration between the sample liquid and reagent fluid to generate at least partially equilibrated reagent fluid in a substantially continuous manner.

Systems and methods for a reconfigurable, long-range, underwater data-communication network are described. The network provides a low cost, low power, lightweight, and easy to deploy underwater communication system capable of being operated at long distances. The network may include a cabled ocean observatory, which may be deployed underwater and connected to a surface buoy. The cabled ocean observatory may be connected to one or more removable underwater sensors via fiber optic cables. The underwater sensors may be disposed at underwater locations at long distances from the cabled ocean observatory. Fiber optic extension modules may be permanently connected to each end of the fiber optic cables. Each fiber optic extension module may include an optical transceiver, a power supply, and an inductive element for removably coupling an underwater sensor or the cabled ocean observatory to the fiber optic cable.
