A flame sensor apparatus includes a sensor assembly. The sensor assembly includes a photodiode for sensing characteristics of a flame. The photodiode outputs an electrical photocurrent. The sensor assembly includes an electrical assembly that is electrically remote from the sensor assembly. The sensor assembly includes an electric cable assembly extending from the sensor assembly to the electrical assembly. The electric cable assembly includes an electrical cable to electrically convey the photocurrent to the electrical assembly. At least the sensor assembly is configured and constructed to experience and continue to operate at a temperature at or greater than 200&#xb0; C.

High temperature flame sensor

An apparatus and method for flame sensing within a turbine. A sensor assembly, an electrical assembly and a cable assembly extending therebetween. A photodiode generates an electrical signal and the electrical assembly determines a characteristic. An inner conductor electrically connects the photodiode to the electrical assembly. A first insulating layer, with mineral insulation material, surrounds the inner conductor. An inner sheath, with electrically conductive material, surrounds the first insulating layer. A second insulating layer, with mineral insulation material, surrounds the inner sheath. An outer sheath, with an electrically conductive, metal material, surrounds the second insulating layer. The cable assembly is configured for use up to about 300 degrees Celsius or greater. The portions of the cable are constructed and configured, and connected between the sensor assembly and the electrical assembly, to enclose the inner conductor such that the inner conductor is not exposed outside of confines of the cable.

Triaxial mineral insulated cable in flame sensing applications

A flame sensor apparatus is provided including a sensor for sensing specific characteristics of a flame within a combustion chamber. The sensor includes a silicon carbide photodiode, and the sensor is spaced a distance from the combustion chamber. In addition, a fiber optic cable assembly extends between the sensor and the combustion chamber. The fiber optic cable can convey the specific characteristics of the flame from the combustion chamber to the sensor. The fiber optic cable assembly is included as part of a sealed array filled with an inert gas. In addition, a method of sensing specific characteristics of a flame is also provided.

Flame sensor

A cable assembly for a flame sensor apparatus includes an inner conductor electrically connected to a photodiode that generates a current. The inner conductor transmits the current from the photodiode. A first insulating layer circumferentially surrounds the inner conductor. The first insulating layer includes a mineral insulation material. An inner sheath circumferentially surrounds the first insulating layer. The inner sheath includes an electrically conductive material. A second insulating layer circumferentially surrounds the inner sheath. The second insulating layer includes a mineral insulation material. An outer sheath circumferentially surrounds the second insulating layer. The outer sheath includes an electrically conductive material. The cable assembly is for use in temperatures up to about 300 degrees Celsius or greater. A method of attaching a cable assembly for a flame sensor apparatus.

A neutron detector includes an anode and a cathode. The cathode circumscribes the anode and has a plurality of planar segments facing the anode. In one embodiment, the neutron detector is part of an array of neutron detectors.

Neutron sensitivity using detector arrays

A flame sensor apparatus is provided including a sensor assembly for sensing characteristics of a flame within a combustion chamber. The flame sensor apparatus further includes an electrical assembly that is electrically remote from the sensor assembly. In addition, a cable assembly extends between the sensor assembly and the electrical assembly. The cable assembly can convey the characteristics of the flame from the photodiode to the electrical assembly. The cable assembly is included as part of a sealed array filled with an inert gas. In addition, a method of sensing characteristics of a flame is also provided.

Ultra-violet flame detector with high temperature remote sensing element

A sensor apparatus is used for sensing a condition in a combustion chamber. The sensor apparatus includes a sensor housing having a sealed internal chamber. The sensor apparatus further includes a connector attached to an opening of the sensor housing. The connector transfers a signal indicative of the condition into the sensor housing. A fastener is secured to the connector. A sealing member is disposed between the connector and the fastener. The sealing member sealingly engages the connector to prevent fluid passage through the connector and into the internal chamber of the sensor housing. A method of sealing a sensor apparatus is also provided.

Hermetic electrically shielded connector

A flame sensor apparatus and a cable assembly apparatus are provided for use in sensing characteristics of a flame within a combustion chamber. The flame sensor apparatus includes an electrical assembly remote from a sensor assembly. A cable assembly extends between the sensor assembly and the electrical assembly. The cable assembly includes two cable ends and a housing that defines an internal volume. Cable fittings are connected to the cable ends through a first seal. An electrical cable is inserted through cable fitting openings in each cable fitting and the internal volume of the housing. A second seal is located in the annular spaces between the electrical cable and each cable fitting opening, configured to prevent moisture and contaminants from passing through the cable fitting opening. Additionally, a method of sealing an electrical cable and a flexible conduit is provided.

Certain embodiments of the invention may include systems, methods, and apparatus for providing anode and cathode electrical separation in detectors. According to an example embodiment of the invention, a method is presented for providing a neutron detector tube. The method may include applying a conductive layer to at least a portion of an inner surface of a non-conductive cathode tube associated with a neutron detector; applying a neutron sensitive cathode coating to at least a portion of the conductive layer; sealing a first portion of the neutron detector tube with a cathode cap; and sealing a second portion of the neutron detection tube with an anode cap.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for anode and cathode electrical separation in detectors

An apparatus for detecting at least one of neutron and gamma ray reception and outputting a signal indicative of the reception. A detector is responsive to the at least one of neutron and gamma ray reception. The detector has a cathode, an anode separated by a space from the cathode, and a gas within the separating space. Charge is generated within the gas upon the at least one of neutron and gamma ray reception at the cathode and the charge passes to the anode as a detection. A processing arrangement is operatively connected to the anode for outputting the signal indicative of the detection. A light irradiation arrangement for introducing a light irradiation causes charge within the gas that replicates the charge generated upon detection and that causes output of a signal that replicates the signal indicative of the detection.

Using UV light source for self testing gas filled gamma and neutron detectors

A neutron detector array that includes a hollow member circumscribing an axis and bounding a volume. A divider extends parallel to the axis within the hollow member to divide the volume into a plurality of volume portions. A plurality of anodes extend parallel to the axis; at least one anode within each volume portion. A plurality of cathodes wherein the hollow member has an interior surface and the divider has surfaces that are coated with neutron sensitive material. Also, a neutron detector that includes a hollow cathode bounding a volume portion with at least a partial wedge cross-section, and an anode extending thought the volume portion. An electric field exists during operation of the neutron detector within the volume portion, the electric field varying across the cross-section, and the anode being located at an area of maximum field strength within the field. The detector may be used in the array.

B10 neutron detector in pie shaped sectors

A velocity transducer or Velomitor&#xae; that can output electrical signals relating to vibration, despite the transducer being exposed to low levels of gamma-radiation, is disclosed. A DC feedback circuit, which sets up the input stage bias point, keeps the output bias voltage within a usable voltage range as the transducer is exposed to the gamma-radiation. An additional JFET transistor, configured as a current source, helps the DC feedback circuit compensate for increases in the offset voltage of the JFET amplifier. The value of a resistor controlling the gate current of the JFET amplifier is also reduced, such that when the leakage current increases, the offset voltage is reduced.

Feedback circuit for radiation resistant transducer

An instrumentation package in broad terms includes at least one substantially cylindrical instrumentation component; a substantially cylindrical shield surrounding the instrumentation component, the shield having a diameter less than a standard predetermined diameter; and a sizing sleeve around the shield, thereby increasing the diameter of the sleeve to the standard predetermined diameter. A nuclear detector package is also disclosed that includes a substantially cylindrical crystal element; a photomultiplier tube arranged coaxially with the crystal element; an optical coupler sandwiched between one end of the crystal element and an adjacent end of the photomultiplier tube; the crystal element, optical coupler and photomultiplier tube hermetically sealed within a cylindrical shield; and a flexible support sleeve extending exteriorly along the crystal element and the photomultiplier tube and radially inside the cylindrical shield.

Instrumentation package and integrated radiation detector

An ultra violet light sterilizing apparatus utilizing a silicon carbide (SiC) photodiode sensor is described. The ultraviolet light fluid sterilization apparatus includes a fluid chamber, at least one ultraviolet light source configured to emit ultraviolet light into the fluid chamber, and at least one ultraviolet light sensor that includes a silicon carbide photodiode. Each UV light sensor includes a sealed outer housing having an optically transparent window. A silicon carbide photodiode is located inside the housing adjacent the transparent window. Each UV light sensor also includes a signal amplification unit that includes an amplifier mounted on a printed circuit board located inside the housing. The UV sterilization apparatus also includes a controller configured to receive, as input, a signal from each ultraviolet light sensor. The controller compares the input signal to a desired UV light intensity and outputs a control signal to each ultraviolet light source to adjust the intensity of the ultraviolet light emitted from each ultraviolet light source.
