A phase-separated evaporator includes a boiler plate and a phase separation chamber that includes a housing, connected to the boiler plate, having a gas port and a liquid port; and a phase partitioner connected to interiors of the housing, dividing the phase-separated evaporator into a vapor directing compartment and a condensate directing compartment. The phase partitioner includes a partition panel and multiple feeding injectors extending from the partition panel, with the injector tips disposed immediately above the boiler plate. The returning condensate from a condenser enters from the liquid port into the condensate directing compartment and feeds onto the boiler plate through the feeding injectors; while the vapor generated in the vapor directing compartment exits from the gas port, without encountering the condensate. Further disclosed are a high efficiency heat dissipation system utilizing the phase-separated evaporator and a blade-thru condenser, and a computer system utilizing the heat dissipation system.

An apparatus and method for determining the density and fluid-type of a fluid flowing in a capillary tube, the velocity and viscosity of a blood sample flowing in a capillary tube, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of a blood sample after flow has been brought to an abrupt stop in a capillary tube, and/or the zeta sedimentation rate (ZSR) of a blood sample after flow has been brought to an abrupt stop in a capillary tube. These measurements are accomplished by directing a waveform pulse, such as an ultrasound pulse, at a pre-determined frequency transversely across the capillary tube and sample fluid, and by determining the flight of time of the pulse through the capillary tube and sample fluid and/or the Doppler shift of the echo signals reflecting off cells moving forwardly or transversely within a flowing, or stationary, blood sample.

Apparatus and method for analyzing a liquid in a capillary tube of a hematology instrument

A physically compact (saline) solution preparation apparatus includes a solution mixing tank coupled to sources of concentrate and diluent. A concentrate transport path is configured to both homogenize and deliver concentrate to the mixing tank, while the diluent transport path is controllably purged of potential contaminates prior to supplying the diluent to the mixing tank. A mixed solution transport path recirculates and thereby homogenizes the contents of the mixing container, and actively pumps out solution that has been mixed to a prescribed conductivity-based concentration, to one or more solution on demand storage reservoirs for respective instruments. The operation of the apparatus is based upon measured conductivity of the contents of the solution mixing tank, so that there is no need to conduct precursor volumetric measurements of either diluent or concentrate.

A junction field effect transistor (JFET) RF oscillator-detector circuit generates an RF signal for an apparatus for conducting electrical measurements of particles contained in a carrier fluid passing through an aperture in a cytometer flow cell. The JFET oscillator includes a plurality of parallel-coupled JFETs having respectively different V vs. I characteristics, that are biased to operate at square law detection regions of their respective V vs. I characteristics. One JFET operates in Class C mode, while the other operates in Class AB mode. An RF resonant circuit is electrically coupled to the JFETs and to the measurement cell, and is operative to establish the frequency of an RF field applied to the measurement cell. An RF load change detection circuit is coupled to the RF resonator circuit and is operative to detect an RF load change associated with a modification of the RF field as a result of a particle within the measurement cell aperture.
