A spring wire loop is affixed to a tennis racquet to enable a player to conveniently scoop a tennis ball off the playing surface and retrieve it. In one add-on embodiment, the loop can be affixed by mounts secured to the strings of an existing racquet; in another it is held in place by the racquet's bumper guard; in a further alternative, the loop can be secured to mounts built into the racquet at manufacture.

The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring inspection system that includes a user interface device including processor circuitry, a user interface, and a first communications interface. The first communications interface is configured to transmit configuration data related to a plurality of electrical test procedures and receive test data corresponding to a plurality of electrical parameters. A branch circuit analysis device is configured to be coupled to the user interface device via the first communications interface and at least one branch circuit by at least one test connector. The branch circuit analysis device includes processor circuitry, branch circuit test circuitry configured to perform one or more of the plurality of electrical test procedures, and a second communications interface configured to transmit and receive configuration data related to a plurality of electrical test procedures and transmit and receive test data corresponding to a plurality of electrical parameters. A panel interface device is configured to be coupled to a load center panel and the branch circuit analysis device via the second communications interface. The panel interface device includes processor circuitry and load center test circuitry configured to perform one or more of the plurality of electrical test procedures.

Automated electrical wiring inspection system

The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring inspection system. The system includes an electrical measurement apparatus having at least one load center connector configured to couple the electrical measurement apparatus to a load center, at least one branch circuit connective device configured to couple the electrical measurement apparatus to a portion of a branch circuit, and at least one electrical measurement circuit disposed between the at least one load center connector and the at least one branch circuit connective device. The at least one electrical measurement circuit is configured to perform a series of electrical test procedures to obtain a plurality of electrical parameters. A portable computing device (PCD) includes processing circuitry, a user interface coupled to the processing circuitry, and at least one communications interface configured to couple the portable computing device to the electrical measurement apparatus. The processing circuitry is configured to direct the at least one electrical measurement circuit via the at least one communications interface to perform the series of electrical test procedures in response to an input from the user interface.

A system for testing and documenting the electrical wiring in a building, for example, includes a Portable Circuit Analyzer (PCA) that is connected to the building's Load Center through an umbilical cord. The PCA is in wireless communication with a hand-held computer device, such as a personal digital assistant (PDA) as now widely available, provided with custom software according to the invention. The electrician connects the PCA in succession to each circuit in the building, operating each switch, and each fixture or appliance, while recording the test results of the circuit element on the PDA. The PCA measures the resistance and length of each circuit thus established. When the test process is completed, the PDA is enabled to generate a complete schematic diagram of the building, including, for example, an identification of the branch circuit to which each fixture, outlet, appliance, or other load or connection point is connected.

Electrical wiring inspection system

A system for locating parallel arcing faults in a set of wires is described. The system includes three devices that can be used in combination or alone. A first device applies a current to a wire while grounding the remaining wires of the set of wires so as to cause the parallel arc, the first device being adapted to locate the parallel arcing fault using one or more leading edges of one or more electromagnetic waveforms being conducted on the wire under test. A second device comprises a controller and two or more receivers, each receiver being electrically coupled to the controller for receiving one or more leading edges of one or more electromagnetic waveforms being radiated by the parallel arcing fault. A third device senses one or more leading edges of one or more electromagnetic waveforms as well as the ultrasonic emissions emitted from the parallel arcing fault.

A device for measuring the AC voltage drop across a series of connections under load with no direct electrical contact to the conductors. The presence of a substantial resistance at series contacts is indicative of a series arcing fault. The device comprises a capacitive probe for clamping to the outer insulation layer of the wire to sense a first voltage at a first node. The device further comprises a floating high-impedance meter having a ground reference coupled to the source of common-mode voltage at a second node, the floating high-impedance meter being adapted to measure a voltage difference between the two nodes and being further adapted to indicate the presence of the series fault when the measured voltage exceeds a predetermined level.

A device for detecting and locating arcs in a set of wires is discussed. The device comprises a probe for discharging controlled current to an exposed portion of a wire in the set of wires. The probe includes a handleable enclosure and an elongated structure which projects from the enclosure for conducting a gas and for enclosing a needle that has a tip. A suitable gas includes gases that have low electron attachment, such as helium. The device further comprises a control unit for communicating control signals as well as the gas to the probe. The control unit includes a controller, a valve being controllable by the controller and being capable of regulating the flow of the gas, and a high-voltage generator being controllable by the controller to generate a high-voltage signal, which can be communicated to the probe by the control unit.

An improved NDIR instrument as used for measuring the carbon dioxide content of a gas sample includes an electrically modulated incandescent lamp disposed at one end of a sample cell for containing the gas to be analyzed, and a first pyroelectric detector at the other end of the cell. The intensity of modulated radiation incident on the detector is measured using paired dual-slope integrators, each integrating the signal on alternate half-cycles of the signal provided by the detector, to determine the concentration of infrared-absorptive gas in the cell. At intervals, the cell is purged by an infrared-transparent gas, and a similar measurement made, allowing correction for long-term drift in the optical characteristics of the instrument. The instrument correctly determines the concentration of CO.sub.2 despite 'leakage' of the broad-band infrared radiation emitted by the lamp through the sample to be analyzed. In a second embodiment, a second pyroelectric detector is juxtaposed to the lamp opposite the cell, and the intensity of the radiation emitted by the lamp controlled by a feedback loop including the second detector.

Improved circuits for measuring the conductivity of a solution confined between two electrodes in a cell compensate for series capacitance and parallel capacitance between the electrodes. A bipolar square-wave signal is applied to the cell. In one embodiment, the current through the cell is measured by an op-amp in current-to-voltage converter configuration. A feedback resistance employed with the op-amp in a feedback loop is controlled to a low value to ensure that the parallel capacitance is fully charged during an initial portion of each half-cycle of the drive signal. The feedback resistance is then selected so that the gain of the feedback loop is responsive to the range of the resistivity of the solution, and the measurement is made. In a further embodiment, charge proportional to the current through the cell is integrated across the op-amp, and the rate of charge is measured by measuring the time required to integrate the current to a predetermined level, and used to determine the resistivity of the solution. In this embodiment, the parallel capacitance is fully charged before each integration period begins. The voltage developed across the series capacitance is constant and can be compensated mathematically.
