A multi-window user interface (UI) is presented in various configurations and operational uses to leverage the relatively large display canvas afforded by large screen display devices such as 4K or 8K displays. Along with the various 'Multiview' aspects, content delivery techniques, content selection techniques, and level of service techniques also are presented.

A glass (or other transparent) substrate such as a window is used for large screen video projection to permit viewing at an outdoor location (or opposite side of the substrate) of a video projector's image directed from a location in the home. The projector image is sent through an articulated glass window pane (substrate). Alternately a projector such as an ultra short throw (UST) projector can be completely located behind the transparent glass pane located in a home separating two rooms. In either case, the video image can be projected onto the substrate when desired, and when no video is being shown the substrate functions as a window or displays window art as a wall covering.

A sequence of photographs is taken of the face (and if desired the upper body) of a user of a mobile device using the camera of the mobile device. Each photo is taken at a different angle from the user. The sequence is compared with a stored sequence and if a match is found, access to the device is granted. The user typically holds the device with arms extended outward and moves the device 180&#xb0; across his face to take the sequence for authentication purposes.

A digital television pre-broadcast signal, including the content data, is generated. At least one portion of the digital television pre-broadcast signal is extracted. The at least one portion of the digital television pre-broadcast signal is packaged into one or more Internet Protocol (IP) data packets. A digital television broadcast signal, including the remainder of the digital television pre-broadcast signal, is generated. The one or more IP data packets is provided via a communication network. The digital television broadcast signal is provided on a predetermined radio frequency (RF) channel.

A bank customer's electronic debit or credit card ('e-card') automatically reports to the customer's CE device the receipt of transaction interrogations the e-card receives from a point of sale (POS) apparatus. The e-card may simply report to the CE device and respond to the interrogation, or it may await a signal from the CE device prior to responding to the interrogation.

A method is provided for a reception apparatus to access non-real-time (NRT) content. The method includes receiving, by the reception apparatus, a selection of the NRT content included in a digital television broadcast signal broadcast by a content source. The reception apparatus determines whether the selected NRT content is stored in a memory of the reception apparatus. When the selected NRT content is determined not to be stored in the memory, the reception apparatus determines whether the selected NRT content can be downloaded from an external device that is accessible via a communication network. When the selected NRT content is determined to be downloadable from an external device that is accessible via the communication network, the reception apparatus downloads the selected NRT content from the external device.

Distributed non-real-time content

Meta-material with individually-addressable elements is applied to a video projector screen to dynamically control light reflectance and grayscale. Example meta-material includes piezo electric elements, liquid crystal elements, and electrochromic elements. Methods of calibrating the screen with meta-material are disclosed. In one embodiment the screen is adjustable pixel by pixel. In another embodiment the screen is adjust by multi-pixel spans per line of meta-material. A camera may be used to provide feedback to the alignment system to make corrective adjustments to the screen.

Mesh node modules are associated with movable and fixed items in a building such as a grocery store or factory floor to maintain a database of the locations of those items as they are processed through the establishment. The items form a mesh network and relay location information through access points, when in range, to control/monitoring computers.

A dual layer e-screen includes a top layer of a transparent lenticular or parallax material backed by an e-screen made of a material with controllable grey scales such as electronic paper. The top layer is controllable compensates for ambient lighting by creating a controllable surface that allows for uniform light distribution across the screen, while providing for adaptive contrast levels that selectively darken areas where light is not needed to more accurate display shadows from projected images. The eScreen can be additionally arranged to dynamically alter the gray scale matched to the video being shown to support viewing high dynamic range video through a projector. The gray scale used for each pixel element is biased to the ambient lighting conditions to remove the ambient light from the HDR video playback.

A deformable lens, deformable micro-mirror array, or combination thereof adjusts an image projected onto a screen to modify that image to compensate for small imperfections in the flatness of the surface the video is being projected onto. Initial calibration can be performed to create a screen profile, that is then used to adjust the optics to compensate for the detected screen anomalies. An initial grid projected onto the screen may be used for this purpose, with a high resolution camera imaging the grid and the perpendicularity, straightness and sharpness of the grid lines then being assessed by a processor to calculate the necessary optical modifications to modify the projected image such that the grid lines are straightened and aligned. In another embodiment a scanning laser is used to assess screen flatness and uniformity with pixel level precision.

Adaptive optics for a video projector

A technique for transferring content on a customer's DVR to a new location to which the customer has moved includes accessing information including content and/or identification of content recorded on a first digital video recorder (DVR) located at a first customer facility, and loading the content and/or identification of content on a second DVR at a facility associated with a multiple systems operator (MSO). The second DVR is delivered to the customer at a second customer facility.
