A surgical universal headrest is disclosed. In one embodiment, a body has two lateral wings slidably coupled to the body. Each lateral wing has an arm moveably secured thereto with a range of proximal-to-distal motion with respect to a medial line of the body. The body, lateral wings, and the arms, in cooperative combination, define a support perimeter of adjustable size having an opening therethrough. The support perimeter of adjustable size accommodates patients ranging from premature infants to adults and the opening accommodates an eye-nose-mouth region of a patient ranging from a premature infant to an adult. A skull pin holder assembly is included.

An apparatus for minimally-invasive, including non-invasive, prevention and/or treatment of hydrocephalus and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the apparatus, a housing is sized for superjacent contact with a skull having a fontanel. Within the housing, a compartment includes a pressure applicator, such as a fluid-filled bladder, under the control of a pressure regulator. The pressure applicator is configured to selectively apply an external pressure to the fontanel. The compartment includes a pressure sensor configured to measure intracranial pulse pressure of the fontanel. Further, in one embodiment, the apparatus can cause pulse pressure modulation by adjusting the intracranial pulse pressure via the pressure applicator. This enables a non-invasive measurement of the pulse pressure and modulation thereof in infants, for example.

Apparatus for minimally-invasive prevention and treatment of hydrocephalus and method for use of same

A base station assembly for an operating room table is disclosed. In one embodiment, the base station assembly includes a base station that is secured to the operating room table. The base station includes an arcuate rail member with a selectively moveable clamp attached thereto. A vertical support arm extends from the selectively moveable clamp to provide selective attachment to a surgical accessory, such as a retractor arm, armrest, or image guidance reference frame. The base station assembly provides surgical accessory support that may be moved and adjusted by a surgeon at any time during an operation without contaminating a surgical field and without assistance from circulating operating room personnel.

A base station assembly for an operating room table is disclosed. In one embodiment, the base station assembly includes a base station that is secured to the operating room table. The base station includes an arcuate rail member. A selectively moveable clamp is attached to the arcuate rail member. A support arm extends from the selectively moveable clamp to provide selective attachment to a surgical accessory, such as a retractor arm, an armrest, or an image guidance reference frame. The base station assembly provides a surgical accessory support that may be moved and adjusted by a surgeon at any time during an operation without contaminating a surgical field and without assistance from circulating operating room personnel.

A surgical armrest is disclosed. In one embodiment, the surgical armrest includes a body having two dorsal mounting brackets attached thereto. Each of the dorsal mounting brackets have an elongated aperture with an armrest member attached thereto. Each of the elongated apertures defines two ranges of rotation substantially parallel to a horizontal axis of the body. Each of the armrest members are configured to support a surgeon's elbow, forearm, wrist, or a combination thereof, during a surgical procedure, such as an operative microsurgery procedure on the skull and brain, for example.

A therapeutic garment for treatment of over-shunting headaches and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the therapeutic garment includes a waistband and an abdominal portion that extends from the waistband to encircle the abdomen and hips from the groin to the costal margin of a person wearing the therapeutic garment. A binder portion is partially coincident to the abdominal portion. The binder portion includes a pressure subassembly including a network of interconnected channels having an inflation valve accessible from an exterior of the abdominal portion. The pressure assembly, when selectively inflated, provides a qualified degree of compression to distend an epidural venous plexus of the person wearing the therapeutic garment. The therapeutic garment may further be fashioned into a brief, a tank top, or include leg extensions.

Therapeutic garment for treatment of over-shunting headaches and method for use of same

An implantable intracranial pulse pressure modulator for treating hydrocephalus in patients of all ages is disclosed as well as a system and method for use of the same. In one embodiment of the implantable intracranial pulse pressure modulator, two one-way valves are interposed in parallel, opposing orientations between a vestibule and a chamber. One of the one-way valves, in response to systole, provides fluid communication from the vestibule to the chamber such that a small aliquot of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is displaced from a cerebral ventricle into a ventricular catheter, thereby reducing intraventricular systolic pressure. The other one-way valve, in response to diastole, provides fluid communication from the chamber to the vestibule such that the same volume of CSF is reintroduced into a cerebral ventricle, thereby increasing intraventricular diastolic pressure. Together, both processes work synergistically to reduce intraventricular pulse pressure in order to treat hydrocephalus.

An apparatus () for minimally-invasive, including non-invasive, prevention and/or treatment of hydrocephalus and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the apparatus (), a housing () is sized for superjacent contact with a skull having a fontanel. Within the housing (), a compartment () includes a pressure applicator (), such as a fluid-filled bladder (), under the control of a pressure regulator (). The pressure applicator () is configured to selectively apply an external pressure to the fontanel. The compartment () includes a pressure sensor () configured to measure intracranial pulse pressure of the fontanel. Further, in one embodiment, the apparatus () can cause pulse pressure modulation by adjusting the intracranial pulse pressure via the pressure applicator (). This enables a non-invasive measurement of the pulse pressure and modulation thereof in infants, for example.

A therapeutic garment for treatment of over-shunting headaches and method for use of the same are disclosed.
