A Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process () includes feeding gaseous reactants () including at least CO, Hand COinto a reactor () holding an iron-based catalyst. The Hand CO are fed in a H:CO molar ratio of at least 2:1 and the COand CO are fed in a CO:CO molar ratio of at least 0.5:1. The reactor () is controlled at an operating temperature in the range from about 260&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C. A liquid product () and a gaseous product () including hydrocarbons, CO, H, water and COare withdrawn from the reactor ().

This invention relates to a high temperature Fischer-Tropsch (HTFT) hydrocarbon synthesis process comprising the conversion of a feed of Hand at least one carbon oxide to hydrocarbons containing at least 30% on a mass basis hydrocarbons with five or more carbon atoms (hereinafter referred to as Ccompounds). The conversion is carried out in the presence of an alkali-promoted iron hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst, and the process is characterised therein that the reaction mixture formed during the conversion contains less than 0.02 mol alkali per 100 g iron, and that the H:carbon oxide molar ratio in the feed of Hand carbon oxide is at least 2.

Hydrocarbon synthesis process using an alkali promoted iron catalyst

This invention relates to a hydrocarbon synthesis process comprising the conversion of a feed of Hand at least one carbon oxide to hydrocarbons containing at least 30% on a mass basis hydrocarbons with five or more carbon atoms. The conversion is carried out in the presence of an alkali-promoted iron hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst and an acidic catalyst suitable for converting hydrocarbons. The reaction mixture formed during the conversion contains less than 0.02 mol alkali per 100 g iron and the H:carbon oxide molar ration in the feed of Hand carbon oxide is at least 2.

Hydrocarbon synthesis process using a hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst and an acidic catalyst

According to the present invention there is provided a hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst comprising a precipitated iron product and a catalyst promotor. The catalyst has a surface area of below 60 mper gram of catalyst in the reduced form or below 100 mper gram of catalyst in the non-reduced form. According to the invention there is also provided a process for preparing the catalyst and the use thereof in the synthesis of hydrocarbons.
