A computing system for measuring and monitoring patient biomarkers for detecting or predicting a post-surgical colorectal complication may be provided. A post-surgical colorectal complication may be predicted or detected by comparing measured/processed patient biomarker data with a corresponding determined threshold value. The comparison of the measured/processed patient biomarker data and the corresponding threshold may be performed in association with a context. The context may be based on at least one of a colorectal surgery recovery timeline, at least one situational attribute, or at least one environmental attribute. A notification message associated with a predicted or detected post-surgical colorectal complication may be sent (e.g., sent in real time) to a patient device or a healthcare provider's device. The notification message may be supplemented by a severity level message.

A fastener cartridge can include, one, a cartridge body comprising a deck and a plurality of fastener cavities and, two, a plurality of fasteners positioned in the fastener cavities. The cartridge body can further comprise extensions extending from the deck having different sizes and/or configurations. The extensions can control the flow of tissue relative to the deck and/or support the fasteners as they are ejected from the fastener cavities.

Data generated by the one or more surgical data sources may be received by the processor. Such data may be used, by the processor, to train a machine learning (ML) model (e.g., a neural network). ML model may be deployed to affect an operation of the surgical device. For example, the ML model may be deployed to the surgical hub to affect an operation of the surgical device.

A surgical instrument system comprising a motor system and a control circuit is disclosed. The motor system comprises a motor and a drive train coupleable to the motor and configured to actuate a firing member through a staple firing stroke. The control circuit is coupled to the motor, wherein the control circuit comprises a motor controller configured to control the motor, and wherein, during the staple firing stroke, the control circuit is configured to actuate the firing member through the staple firing stroke, monitor a parameter of the motor system during the staple firing stroke, identify when the firing member is within an active adjustment portion of the staple firing stroke; and automatically adjust, at a frequency, tuning parameters of the motor controller with based on the monitored parameter of the motor system during the active adjustment portion of the staple firing stroke.

Surgical systems are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical system includes a first scope device, a first instrument, a second scope device, and a second instrument. The first scope device has a first portion configured to be inserted into an extraluminal anatomical space and a second portion configured to be positioned within an intraluminal anatomical space. The first scope device includes a first insufflation port configured to insufflate the intraluminal anatomical space. The first instrument is configured to be inserted through the extraluminal anatomical space and into the intraluminal anatomical space such that the first instrument is present in both the extraluminal and intraluminal anatomical spaces. The second scope device is configured to be inserted into the extraluminal anatomical space. The second scope device has a second insufflation port configured to insufflate the extraluminal anatomical space. The second instrument is configured to be inserted into the extraluminal anatomical space. Methods are also provided.

Surgical systems for independently insufflating two separate anatomic spaces

A system includes a surgical device useable in a sterile field and having a first control circuit to selectively control the surgical device, an actuator communicatively coupled to the first control circuit, and a sterile field display separate from the surgical device. An actuation of the actuator implements a surgical function by the surgical device. The sterile field display includes a second control circuit communicatively coupled to the first control circuit, and the second control circuit includes a user interface to receive a user input. The second control circuit receives an input signal from the user interface indicative of an adjustment to the surgical function associated with the actuator. Further, the second control circuit transmits an output signal to the first control circuit based on the input signal.

An apparatus includes at least one link and a plurality of beads. The plurality of beads is joined using the at least one link and is configured to be arranged in an annular arrangement. The annular arrangement is sized and configured to form a loop around an anatomical structure in a patient. Each bead includes a magnet configured to emit a magnetic field and a non-magnetic feature disposed between the adjacent magnets. The magnetic fields of adjacent magnets of adjacent beads of the plurality of beads are configured to proportionately change based on a distance between the adjacent beads. The magnet of each of the beads is configured to magnetically bias the loop toward the contracted configuration. The non-magnetic feature is configured to create a temporary magnetic braking force by temporarily altering the proportionate change of the magnetic fields once the adjacent beads are in a close proximity state.

A method of operating a surgical assembly is disclosed. The method includes receiving a first input from a first RFID scanner indicative of a first information stored in a first RFID chip of a first modular component of the surgical assembly, receiving a second input from a second RFID scanner indicative of a second information stored in a second RFID chip of a second modular component of the surgical assembly, determining an operational parameter of a motor of the surgical assembly based on the first input and the second input, and causing the motor to effect a tissue treatment motion of the first modular component.

The surgical stapling instrument further comprises a firing assembly lockout arrangement that is configured to engage a portion of the firing member to prevent distal advancement of the firing member unless an unfired staple cartridge is operably supported in the end effector. The surgical stapling instrument comprises means for applying a firing motion to the firing assembly to drive the firing member from a starting position to an ending position and means for applying a retraction motion to the firing assembly to return the firing member from the ending position to the starting position.

The method includes sensing via one or more vibration sensors vibrations generated during operation of the one or more drivetrains of the surgical instrument, generating an output signal based on the sensed vibrations, filtering the output signal to generate a filtered signal of the sensed vibrations from the one or more drivetrains, processing the filtered signal to generate a processed signal of the sensed vibrations from the one or more drivetrains, and comparing predetermined threshold values for each of an acceptable status, a marginal status, and a critical status of the surgical instrument to corresponding values of the processed signal.

Mechanisms for compensating for drivetrain failure in powered surgical instruments

A method is provided for operating a powered surgical stapler having a motor unit, a controller, and a stapling assembly having a plurality of movable members that are actuatable longitudinally by the motor unit to clamp, staple, and cut tissue. The controller determines that a movable member of the stapling assembly is in a first predetermined position, and then executes an actuation algorithm to activate the motor unit to actuate the movable member longitudinally from the first predetermined position toward a second predetermined position. The controller observes an actual longitudinal displacement of the movable member between the first and second predetermined positions. The controller compares the actual longitudinal displacement to an expected longitudinal displacement and determines that the actual longitudinal displacement differs from the expected longitudinal displacement by a difference value. The controller then adjusts the actuation algorithm based on the difference value.

Surgical systems for operating endoscopically and laparoscopically are provided. The surgical system includes a first scope device configured to transmit image data of a first scene. A second scope device is configured to transmit image data of a second scene. A tracking device associated with the first or second scope device and configured to transmit a signal indicative of a location of the first or second scope device. A first surgical instrument is configured to interact with an internal side of a target tissue structure. A second surgical instrument is configured to interact an external side of the target tissue structure. A controller is configured to receive (i) the transmitted image data and transmitted signal (ii) to determine a first relative distance, a second relative distance, and a third relative distance. Relative movements of the instruments are coordinated based on the determined relative distances.
