An imaging apparatus includes a frame and a maintenance sled movably coupled to the frame. The maintenance sled includes a carrier engagement member. A printhead carrier is coupled to the frame. A carrier motor is drivably coupled to the printhead carrier. A controller is coupled to the carrier motor. The controller controls the carrier motor to drive the printhead carrier at a first velocity and at a second velocity. The second velocity is lower than the first velocity. The printhead carrier is controlled to move at the first velocity toward the maintenance sled, wherein prior to the printhead carrier contacting the carrier engagement member of the maintenance sled, the printhead carrier is decelerated from the first velocity to the second velocity.

A method for generating a reference signal for use in an imaging apparatus having an encoder system that supplies an original encoder signal includes selecting one of a plurality of encoder signal conditioning algorithms corresponding to a plurality of desired functions, each encoder signal conditioning algorithm of the plurality of encoder signal conditioning algorithms being directed to facilitating a specific predefined function of the plurality of desired functions relating to a modification of the original encoder signal; reading values into the selected encoder signal conditioning algorithm to generate at least one programming parameter; and programming a hardware reference unit using the at least one programming parameter to generate a synthesized encoder signal representing the modification of the original encoder signal.

Method for generating a reference signal for use in an imaging apparatus

An imaging apparatus includes a housing having a cartridge exchange opening, and a printhead carrier system contained in the housing. The printhead carrier system has a printhead carrier. A cover is pivotably attached to the housing. The cover has an engagement surface. When the cover is in a closed position the cartridge exchange opening is not exposed. A switch unit has a switch actuator and a switch. The engagement surface of the cover is positioned to engage the switch actuator when the cover is in the closed position. The switch actuator is configured with a button that is accessible by a user to facilitate manual manipulation of the switch actuator by a force applied to the button by the user. The printhead carrier is positioned based on an output of the switch.

Printhead carrier positioning apparatus and method

A method for reducing the effects of printhead carrier disturbance during printing with an imaging apparatus having a printhead carrier for carrying at least one printhead includes the steps of accelerating the printhead carrier from a first position in a first direction; printing with the printhead in the first direction; and changing a rate of acceleration of the printhead carrier for a subsequent accelerating of the printhead carrier from the first position in the first direction prior to a subsequent printing with the printhead in the first direction to phase shift the printhead carrier disturbance.
