A high density wood product that is made from low-density wood is provided. The wood product is made using a continuous viscoelastic thermal compression (VTC) process and exhibits high density, strength and dimensional stability, compared to the lower density starting material (typically composite panels such as strand board) from which it is made.

Viscoelastic thermal compression of wood

Wood composite materials containing veneer layers interposed with a thermoplastic adhesive containing a polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate and other thermoplastic polymer show increased impact resistance. The composite material may be manufactured using an adhesive transfer method or film extrusion.
