A drilling system includes a drilling machine, configured to drill a hole in a work piece along a drilling axis, a deployment mechanism, attached to the drilling machine, a measuring probe, attached to the deployment mechanism, and a controller, coupled to the drilling machine, the measuring probe, and the deployment mechanism. The measuring probe is configured to produce a signal indicative of an actual geometric parameter of the hole when inserted therein. The deployment mechanism is configured to selectively align the measuring probe along the drilling axis. The controller is configured to cause insertion of the measuring probe into the hole, and to receive the signal from the measuring probe.

Automated inspection system

A system comprises a drilling machine; a capacitive probe; and a probe deployment system, mounted to the drilling machine, for moving the capacitive probe inside a hole drilled by the machine to measure the drilled hole at different depths.

Drilling machine having hole measurement capability

A system for inspecting an aperture is disclosed. The aperture has an axis, a design geometric parameter, an actual geometric parameter, and a depth. The system includes a first measuring probe configured to produce a signal indicative of the actual geometric parameter of the aperture when inserted therein; a deployment mechanism supporting the first measuring probe and attachable to a robotic device, the deployment mechanism configured to selectively orient the first measuring probe along the axis of the aperture; and a controller, couplable to the robotic device, the first measuring probe, and the deployment mechanism. The controller is configured to cause insertion of the first measuring probe into the aperture substantially along the axis and to receive the signal from the probe.

An apparatus for a pickup truck box cover includes a frame having a generally flat rectangular shape and configured to reside in a plane generally perpendicular to a bed of the pickup truck and proximate a back of a cab of the pickup truck. A means joins the frame to a frame of the pickup truck. A means joins the frame to the pickup truck box. A top surface is removably joined to the frame and configured to extend back from a top portion of the cab of the pickup truck along a sloping plane intersecting a plane containing the bed of the pickup truck. Side panels are removably joined to the frame and configured to extend from the top surface to the bed of the pickup truck where, in conjunction with the pickup truck, a shape resembling generally flat bottom airfoil is formed.

Apparatus for a pickup truck box cover

Self-contained, combined wrench and marking system, and method for installing a fitting and for automatically marking an installed fitting. The self-contained combined wrench and marking system has a wrench that may include a wrench head for rotating a fastener during a fastener tightening operation, a torque measuring mechanism for measuring a torque applied to the fastener during the fastener tightening operation, and an angle measuring mechanism for rotating the fastener to a preset angle during the fastener tightening operation. The self-contained combined wrench and marking system also has a marking system for automatically marking the fastener after the torque is applied to the fastener and after rotating the fastener to the preset angle.

A soluble rivet tape is provided. The tape includes a soluble film and an adhesive coating that is applied to one or more sections of the soluble film. A plurality of rivets are inserted into place on a product, such as an airplane. The soluble rivet tape is applied to the product over the placed rivets. The plurality of rivets are set and the soluble rivet tape is removed. Any remaining rivet tape on the product is dissolved during a washing process.

A system for active dynamic balancing of a rotating tool driven by a motor having a shaft supported by a first and second bearing on opposing sides of the motor includes an acceleration sensing assembly configured to sense radial accelerations on the shaft producing an acceleration signal indicative of the radial accelerations. A correcting mass assembly is configured to rotate with the shaft and to move at least one mass radially to the shaft responsive to a correcting signal. A controller is configured to receive the acceleration signal generating a correcting signal by means of a closed loop iterative algorithm.

Active rotational balancing system for orbital sanders

Methods of fabricating electromagnet assemblies are disclosed. In one embodiment, a includes forming a first helix and a second helix, each helix having a first end and a second end and a substantially oval cross-section, the cross-section having a major axis, each helix being configured to concentrate electromagnetic flux at a midpoint on the major axis. Each helix is bent at an angle and offset from the major axis, resulting in a first planar surface including the major axis and a second planar surface. The first and second helixes are oriented such that the outer edges of the respective second planar surfaces coincide and the outer edges of the respective first planar surfaces are in diametric opposition. The first and second helixes are affixed by their respective second planar surfaces, and electrically connected by their respective second ends.

Layered wing coil for an electromagnetic dent remover

An electromagnet assembly for supplying a region of concentrated electromagnetic flux is provided. The assembly includes a flat strip of an electrically conductive metal. The strip has a first and a second opposite planar surfaces at least one of which is covered by a dielectric material. The strip has first and second end portions. The strip is wound in a coil including at least one first loop and one second loop and disposing the second opposite planar surface in the first loop substantially-adjacent the first opposite planar surface in the second loop. The coil is disposed about an axis of symmetry configured to concentrate electromagnetic flux at a midpoint on the axis of symmetry. First and second electrical terminals are connected at the first and second end portions, respectively.

An electromagnet assembly for supplying a region of concentrated electromagnetic flux is provided. The assembly includes a flat strip of an electrically conductive metal. The strip has a first and a second opposite planar surfaces at least one of which is covered by a dielectric material. The strip has first and second end portions. The strip is wound in a coil including at least one first loop and one second loop and disposing the second opposite planar surface in the first loop substantially adjacent the first opposite planar surface in the second loop. The coil is disposed about an axis of symmetry configured to concentrate electromagnetic flux at a midpoint on the axis of symmetry. First and second electrical terminals are connected at the first and second end portions, respectively.

A rivet gun system includes a rivet gun frame having two ends. A die is coupled to one end, and a force sensor coupled to the rivet gun frame. The force sensor detects force applied to the die and generates a force signal in response to the force. A holding coil defines a channel within the rivet gun frame and generates an electromagnetic force along the channel. The channel includes an end defined by an end stop and an end defined by the die. A main coil further defines the channel between the holding coil and the die. The main coil also generates an electromagnetic force along the channel. A plunger slides through the channel in response to the electromagnetic forces. A force sensor electronics controller receives the force signal from the force sensor and activates the holding coil and the main coil in response to the force signal above an activation threshold.

Synchronized rivet gun system

An ergonomic sander handle for clamping onto a sanding device so that the ergonomic handle can be comfortably gripped by a worker and used to apply the sanding device to a surface, is provided. The ergonomic handle includes an elongate body, a clamp head and a bearing. The elongate body is typically a cylindrical aluminum tube with padding for easy and comfortable gripping. One end of the elongate body is attached the clamp head that attaches to the sanding device. The other end of the elongate body is attached to the bearing which may include a pair of roller balls. To sand a surface, the worker grips the elongate body in a power grip (without significant wrist flexion or deviation) and applies pressure to urge sanding device and the bearing onto the surface. The power grip minimizes loads on the wrist and hand which reduces the likelihood of musculoskeletal trauma.

Ergonomic sander handle apparatus and method

A low-noise air delivery system including a nozzle plate having a plurality of tubes. Each tube acts as an independent nozzle with an external diameter (d). Each tube is spaced approximately two external diameters (2d) apart from an adjacent tube. The system also includes a hand-held portion coupled to the nozzle plate engageable to and in communication with an air supply.
