Dosage element and a method of manufacturing a dosage element

This invention concerns dosage elements for a ware washing machine and a method of manufacturing such dosage elements. In embodiments of the invention a dosage element comprises first () and second () joined parts, wherein the first part () is a part which, prior to joining with the second part (), comprised an open receptacle and wherein the second part () comprises a substrate carrying a plurality of mutually separated substances A, B, C arranged in side by side relation. The second part () is joined to said first part () so as to close said receptacle and enclose said substances within it. Dosage elements produced in the inventive method are pleasant to handle, while being surprisingly resistant to damage in handling or transit.

A dosage element of a type to be consumed in ware washing comprises first () and second joined parts (). The first part () comprises a substrate carrying a substance, but preferably carrying a plurality of mutually separated substances A, C. Opposed, second, part () comprises a substrate carrying one or more substances B. The first part () is joined to the second part () so as to form a closed receptacle enclosing the substances in a meshing or interdigitating manner. This arrangement has benefits in manufacturing and in mechanical properties.

Dosage elements to be consumed in use in a ware washing machine are made by (a) forming a main container part within a cavity of a mold; (b) providing the main container part with a first substance; (c) adhering a second substance to the underside of a part which is to form a lid of the dosage element; and (d) sealing the lid-forming part to the main container part so as to close the main container part and enclose the first and second substances within it; wherein the second substance covers at least 5% of the free area of the lid-forming part.

A process for the preparation of a package containing a compacted particulate composition, comprises wrapping a compacted particulate composition with a first film and treating the wrapped compacted particulate composition at an elevated temperature to shrink the film such that it clings to said composition. The resulting packages may be made using low compaction pressures and consequently may have low friability and be fast dissolving.
