A submerged burner for a glass- or rock-melting furnace, including a plurality of in-line injectors, each injector including a cylinder-shaped mixing chamber, with an ejection orifice, a fuel-supply duct and an oxidant-supply duct opening into the mixing chamber at the cylinder jacket in a direction causing a tangential flow of the fuel and of the oxidant relative to the cylinder jacket, and a duct system making it possible for a coolant to flow inside the burner, and, preferably on either side of the alignment of injectors, placed parallel to and all along the latter, solid metal sides rising from the injectors, and protective partitions situated on the top of the solid metal sides.

A plant for melting glass or rock including: a first melting tank including a batch material inlet, a heater that makes it possible to heat the batch materials until a liquid glass is obtained; a liquid glass outlet; and downstream of the melting tank, a second heating tank including metallic walls that are not covered with refractory insulating materials and that include a system of internal ducts allowing circulation of a coolant, a plurality of injectors of submerged burners, and a liquid glass outlet, in a form of an overflow, which limits a height of the glass bath in the heating tank to a value between 50 mm and 300 mm. A process for melting glass or rock uses such a melting plant.

Installation and method for melting glass

A furnace for melting batch materials, including, upstream in the direction of flow of the molten materials, a zone for introducing solid batch materials, and including a submerged burner and an overhead surface burner providing a flame that touches the surface of the glass at the point where the bubble from the submerged burner emerges. This association of an overhead, especially roof-mounted, burner and a submerged burner reduces the quantity of batch stones that may be sent toward the downstream end of the furnace.

The melting of glass batch materials by at least one submerged burner generating a flame within the molten batch materials. At least one gas inlet separate from the burner is close enough to the burner to interact with the flame. The separate influx interacts with the flame of the burner to regulate it, thereby reducing the risk of molten materials entering the burner.
