Provided are fast curing two-part condensation curable silicone compositions which cure by using titanium and/or zirconium based catalysts to generate cured gel materials which are suitable for encapsulating and/or potting electrical and/or electronic articles.

Silicone compositions and their applications

A method for molding shaped silicone elastomeric articles from room temperature curable silicone compositions, which are practically not suited to being processed using extrusion techniques, is provided. The method enables the room temperature curable silicone composition to cure in a predefined shape () into which it is introduced to form a shaped silicone elastomeric article. The articles may be, for the sake of example, suitable for use as spacers for insulating glass units (IGUs).

Method for making elastomeric articles

The present disclosure relates to self-sealing tires, a process for making said self-sealing tires and the use of a silicone composition cured via a condensation cure chemistry to form a self-sealing layer designed to function as both (i) a self-sealing tire puncture material, i.e., to seal puncture holes in the tread region of tires if/when punctured by a foreign body and (ii) as an adhesive for sound-absorbing foams adapted to reduce the noise generated by tires during travel.

Self-sealing tires

There is provided silicone based materials with enhanced tackiness upon cure. These may be used for cured self-adhering silicone-based products such as pressure sensitive adhesives, self-adhering materials and/or self-sealing materials, made from condensation curable silicone-based compositions, the compositions therefor and to applications for which said self-adhesive products may be used. In one particular application the cured silicone based material may be utilised as a self-sealing layer in an inflatable article such as a pneumatic tire.

Silicone-based products and their applications

A room temperature curable sealant/adhesive composition is disclosed. The room temperature curable sealant/adhesive composition comprises: A) one or more organopolysiloxanes; B) a hydrophilic material; C) a cross-linker; D) a titanate catalyst and/or a zirconate catalyst; and E) one or more optional ingredients. A silicone elastomer formed therefrom and related methods are also disclosed. In general, such compositions (upon several hours of contact with water) do not repel water, but rather retain and pick-up water and/or can be wetted by aqueous materials subsequent to exposure.

Room temperature curable compositions

A lamination process is disclosed. The process is useful for silicone based lamination adhesive compositions, in particular those which cure at or around room temperature.

Lamination process

A condensation curable gel composition is the disclosed. The composition comprises: (i) at least one condensation curable silyl terminated polymer having at least one hydrolysable and/or hydroxyl functional group(s) per molecule; (ii) a cross-linker selected from the group of a silicone, an organic polymer, a monosilane or a disilane molecule which contains at least two hydrolysable groups per molecule; and (iii) a condensation catalyst selected from the group of titanates, zirconates or tin (II). The molar ratio of hydroxyl and/or hydrolysable group(s) in polymer (i) to hydrolysable groups from component (ii) is between 0.5:1 and 1:1 using a monosilane cross-linker or 0.75:1 to 3:1 using disilanes. The titanates and zirconates comprise M-OR functions where M is titanium or zirconium and R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group. The molar ratio of M-OR or tin (II) functions to the hydroxyl and/or hydrolysable groups in polymer (i) is comprised between 0.01:1 and 0.5:1.

Elastomeric compositions and their applications

Two part silicone lamination adhesive compositions which cure via a condensation cure chemistry using titanium and/or zirconium based catalysts at room temperature are disclosed. The compositions comprise: (i) at least one condensation curable silyl terminated polymer having at least one hydrolysable and/or hydroxyl functional group(s) per molecule; (ii) a cross-linker; and (iii) a condensation catalyst selected from the group of titanates and zirconates. Polymer (i) is not stored in the same part as cross-linker (ii) and catalyst (iii). Catalyst (iii) is present in a molar amount which is at least 50% of the moisture present cumulatively in the parts of the composition. The molar ratio of silicon bonded hydroxyl groups in polymer (i) to hydrolysable groups in cross-linker (ii) is above 0.15. The molar ratio of the silicon bonded hydroxyl groups in polymer (i) to M-OR functions is greater than 10, where M is titanium or zirconium.

Lamination adhesive compositions and their applications

Cosmetic compositions comprising silicone based materials cured via a condensation cure chemistry are disclosed. In particular, the present disclosure relates to cosmetic compositions comprising a silicone based gel cured via a condensation cure chemistry; and at least one cosmetic ingredient, optionally in a cosmetically acceptable medium. Preparation methods and uses of the cosmetic compositions are also disclosed.

Cosmetic composition comprising silicone materials

Improvements in or relating to transparent units (such as glazing units, which may also be referred to as insulating glass units) and their methods of manufacture are disclosed. Each transparent unit comprises first and second panes of transparent material each having an outwardly facing side and an inwardly facing side. Each inwardly facing side is at least partially coated with a reactive interlayer made by the application of a reactive interlayer coating composition. The inwardly facing side of the first and second panes of transparent material are spaced apart partially or totally by a transparent spacer made of a pre-cured condensation curable material or a substantially pre-cured condensation curable material adhered to the inwardly facing side of the first and second panes of transparent material by way of the reactive interlayers. In various embodiments, the pre-cured condensation curable material is a silicone based material.

Transparent unit

A room temperature curable sealant/adhesive composition is disclosed. The room temperature curable sealant/adhesive composition comprises: (A) one or more organopolysiloxanes; (B) a hydrophilic material; (C) a cross-linker; (D) a titanate or zirconate catalyst; and (E) one or more optional ingredients. A silicone elastomer formed therefrom and related methods are also disclosed.

The present disclosure relates to self-sealing silicone sealant and/or gel compositions cured via a condensation cure chemistry and to their use subsequent to cure as puncture-resistant layers in any type of 'inflatable' article, i.e. articles which take their functional shape after inflation with a suitable gas such as air. The present disclosure also relates to silicone materials, e.g. elastomers and/or gels obtained subsequent to curing said compositions designed to function as self-sealing tire puncture material, i.e. to seal puncture holes in the tread region of tires if/when punctured by a foreign body.

The present disclosure generally relates to thermally conductive silicone compositions and elastomer and gels prepared from a multi-part condensation cure composition catalysed by titanium or zirconium based catalysts. Applications of the resulting thermally conductive silicone elastomers and gels are also considered.

A method of adhering a substantially cured or fully cured silicone based material to a substrate surface is provided. The silicone based material is obtained by curing a condensation curable composition. The condensation curable composition comprises: (I) at least one condensation curable silyl terminated polymer having at least one hydrolysable and/or hydroxyl functional group(s) per molecule; (II) a cross-linker selected from the group of silanes having at least two hydrolysable groups per molecule; and/or silyl functional molecules having at least two silyl groups, each silyl group containing at least one hydrolysable group; and (III) a condensation catalyst selected from the group of titanates and zirconates. The method includes applying a reactive interlayer to the substrate surface and applying pressure to sandwich the reactive interlayer between a surface of the silicone based material and the substrate surface, thereby causing chemical bonding of the silicone based material to the substrate.

Adhesive compositions and their applications

The present invention relates to a process for preparing a linear carbosiloxane polymer, which comprises subjecting at least one thoroughly purified cyclic carbosiloxane monomer to ring opening polymerization in the presence of an acidic or basic catalyst and at least one silanol-functional compound.
