The invention relates to a cord comprising a core structure and one layer, said core structure consisting of 1 to 4 core filaments ( ) having a diameter d , d , being greater than 0.15 mm and smaller than 0.40 mm, said layer consisting of n&plus;m layer filaments ( ) having a diameter d and being twisted in the same direction and at the same pitch as the core filaments ( ) of said core, d being greater than or equal to d &minus;0.05 mm and being smaller than or equal to d &minus;0.015 mm, n being equal to the number of core filaments ( ) and m being equal to six if n is greater than one and being equal to five if n is equal to one, whereby the core filaments ( ) are visually different from the layer filaments ( ).

Compact cord

A steel cord (1) for the reinforcement of elastomers, especially for the reinforcement of breaker layers in a tire, said steel cord comprising two strands of at least two filaments (11, 12) each, said strands being twisted around each other and forming helicoids of a same pitch, the filaments (11) of the first strand having a pitch differing from the pitch of said helicoids and having a value of more than 300 mm, the filaments (12) of the second strand having the same pitch as said helocoids and being twisted in the same sense as said helicoids, all the filaments of both of said strands having a diameter between 0.08 and 0.45 mm, wherein the diameter of the filaments of one of said strands is at least 0.02 mm greater than the diameter of the filaments of the other of said strands. Preferably the diameter of the filaments (12) of said second strand is at least 0.02 mm greater than the diameter of the filaments (11) of said first strand.

Steel cord with improved fatigue strength

A steel cord, for use in the reinforcement of resilient articles such as rubber tires, comprises a central bundle of wires surrounded by a circumferential layer of helicoidally twisted wires. In the central bundle, one can distinguish a core and a surrounding layer, the latter having the same twist pitch as the circumferential layer. In order to reduce wire migration, the wires of the central bundle show a limited number of relative position changes, between 2 and 300 per 30 cm cord length.

Steel cord for reinforcement of elastomer material

A metal cord having a core comprising one or more filaments for the reinforcement of rubber articles comprising a plurality of bundles of grouped filaments wherein the direction of lay of the filaments in the bundles is the same as the direction of lay of the bundles in the cord, each of the filaments having been subjected to plastic torsional deformation, and the average length of lay of each bundle in the cord being substantially equal to the average length of lay of each filament in the bundles, and wherein at any cross-section of the cord the filament or filaments which comprise the core of the cord differ along the length of the cord and belong to the same or different bundles.
