A head end unit of a distributed antenna system includes circuitry configured to: receive downlink signals from at least one base station; process the downlink signals into downlink channelized digital baseband signals at the head end unit by at least one of mixing, decimating, and filtering the downlink channelized digital baseband signals including call information for wireless communication; format the downlink channelized digital baseband signals for transport together; packetize and packet schedule the downlink channelized digital baseband signals into downlink packetized baseband signals at the head end unit; and transmit the downlink packetized baseband signals from the head end unit to remotely located units of the distributed antenna system.

Digital baseband transport in telecommunications distribution systems

Certain features relate to configuring a distributed antenna system ('DAS') to interface with and manage components of facility control and monitoring systems while providing wireless communications in a cellular or public safety network. A communications module is configured for receiving facility control signals from facility control and monitoring centers and associated nodes and sensors. A signal processing module is configured to convert the facility control signals a format transportable in the DAS. The signal processing module is also configured to multiplex the facility control signals with mobile voice and data signals being transported in the DAS. The DAS configured to manage components of facility control and monitoring systems can route facility control signals to appropriate facility control centers or the nodes and sensors associated with the facility control centers.

Telecommunications system for transporting facility control data and wireless coverage information

A method includes: receiving downlink signals at a head end unit of a distributed antenna system from at least one base station; processing the downlink signals into downlink channelized digital baseband signals at the head end unit by at least one of channel filtering, interpolating, and mixing with an oscillator, the downlink channelized digital baseband signals including call information for wireless communication; formatting the downlink channelized digital baseband signals for transport together at the head end unit; packetizing and packet scheduling the downlink channelized digital baseband signals into downlink packetized baseband signals at the head end unit; and transmitting the downlink packetized baseband signals from the head end unit to remotely located units of the distributed antenna system.

One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a first unit communicatively coupled to a second unit via a communication link. The second unit comprises a reconfigurable circuit, the reconfigurable circuit configured with the first or second circuit configuration image. The second unit further comprises an interface device configured to communicatively couple the second unit to the communication link, the second unit configured so that the interface device is configured with the first or second interface configuration image based on the configuration of the reconfigurable circuit configuration.

Priority based reconfiguration scheme for remote units

An endpoint element of a distributed antenna system includes processing circuitry configured for processing a plurality of digital signals for conditioning the signals and compression circuitry configured for compressing at least one of the digital signals according to a compression scheme to yield at least one compressed digital signal and compression settings. The digital signals are combined into a single digital stream and combined and time division multiplexed onto a serial data link with the compression settings. The digital signals are also transmitted with compression settings to another endpoint element over the serial data link.

A system comprising circuitry configured to: communicate with a base station; and adjust an uplink gain applied to uplink signals communicated from the system to the base station based on an evaluation of (1) a noise contribution from the system that is presented to the base station and (2) a receive noise floor for the base station.

A system includes: a unit configured to communicate a modulated signal via a signal interface; and at least one additional unit configured to receive the modulated signal from the unit. The at least one additional unit includes circuitry configured to remove jitter from a recovered clock signal to generate a jitter reduced clock signal that tracks long-term drift in the modulated signal, wherein the at least one additional unit is configured to generate the recovered clock signal from the modulated signal.

Synchronous transfer of streaming data in a distributed antenna system

Certain aspects involve power management subsystems for a distributed antenna system ('DAS') or other telecommunication system. The power management subsystem can include a measurement module and an optimization module. The measurement module can monitor a utilization metric for a remote unit in the DAS or other telecommunication system. The power optimization module can determine whether the remote unit is underutilized based on the monitored utilization metric. The power optimization module can configure the remote unit for a low-power operation in response to determining that the remote unit is underutilized.

Power management for distributed antenna system

One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a first unit communicatively coupled to a second unit via a communication link. The second unit comprises a reconfigurable circuit, wherein first and second circuit configuration images are stored in the second unit, the reconfigurable circuit configured with the first or second circuit configuration image. The second unit further comprises an interface device configured to communicatively couple the second unit to the communication link, wherein first and second interface configuration images are stored in the second unit, the interface device configured with the first or second interface configuration image based on the reconfigurable circuit configuration. The second unit configured so the interface device is configured with the first interface configuration image or the second interface configuration image when the reconfigurable circuit is configured with the first circuit configuration image or the second circuit configuration image respectively.

A broadband transceiver includes at least one layer structure that is substantially impermeable to RF radiation. The layer structure includes a first face surface substantially opposite a second face surface. A receive antenna is located proximate the first face surface and configured to receive RF transmissions. A transmit antenna is located proximate the second surface and configured to transmit RF transmissions. At least one of the receive and transmit antennas generates a generally toroidal radiation pattern that is stronger in a direction substantially parallel to the respective layer structure face surface compared to a direction substantially perpendicular to the face surface.

An antenna structure comprises: a ground plane; a transmit balanced to unbalanced (BALUN) circuit comprising a first transmit connector coupled to a combined transmit port, and a second transmit connector coupled to the combined transit port; a receive BALUN circuit comprising a first receive connector coupled to a combined receive port, and a second receive connector coupled to the combined receive port; a transmit antenna element comprising a first transmit antenna sub-element coupled to the first transmit connector and a second transmit antenna sub-element coupled to the second transmit connector; a receive antenna element independent from the transmit antenna element and comprising a first receive antenna sub-element coupled to the first receive connector and a second receive antenna sub-element coupled to the second receive connector, wherein the transmit antenna element and the receive antenna element are orthogonally-polarized with respect to each other.

Antenna structure for distributed antenna system

Certain aspects and aspects of the present invention are directed to a distributed antenna system having a downlink communication path, an uplink communication path, and a non-duplexer isolator sub-system. The downlink communication path can communicatively couple a transmit antenna to a base station. The uplink communication path can communicatively couple a receive antenna to the base station. In one aspect, the non-duplexer isolator sub-system can be electronically configured for isolating uplink signals traversing the uplink communication path from downlink signals. In another aspect, a non-duplexer isolator sub-system can be configurable in one or more mechanical steps selecting a frequency response. In another aspect, a non-duplexer isolator sub-system can include an active mitigation sub-system.

Method and apparatus for generating a jitter reduced clock signal from signal transmitted over a communication medium includes receiving, with high speed data interface circuitry, a modulated signal that includes a binary encoded data stream. A recovered clock signal is generated from the modulated signal and tracks the long-term drift in the modulated signal. A jitter reduced clock signal is generated by filtering the recovered clock signal with a filtering circuit having a bandwidth sufficient to remove jitter while allowing the jitter reduced clock signal to track the drift in the modulated signal.

A telecommunications system is provided that includes a unit for communicating channelized digital baseband signals with remotely located units. The channelized digital baseband signals include call information for wireless communication. The unit includes a channelizer section and a transport section. The channelizer section can extract, per channel, the channelized digital baseband signals using channel filters and digital down-converters. The transport section can format the channelized digital baseband signals for transport together using a transport schedule unit for packetizing and packet scheduling the channelized digital baseband signals. A signal processing subsystem can control a gain of uplink digital baseband signals, independently, that are received from the remotely located units prior to summing the uplink digital baseband signals.
