A foam earplug for reception at least partially within the ear canal and including a body portion formed of resilient foam plastic material having a multiple open cell structure and having a size and shape for at least partial reception within the ear canal. A transdermal material having a particular beneficial action, and with an outer layer of the foam earplug infused with the transdermal material so that the benefits of the transdermal material is in transdermal contact with the ear canal. One example is a humectant material and, specifically, a moisturizer/lubricating material, for providing an increase to the lubrication and moisturizing in the ear canal. A second example is where the beneficial action is provided by systemic distribution such as a sleep aid, i.e., Melatonin, so that when the earplugs are worn during sleep, the earplugs will provide a sleep aid to the wearer.

Foam earplug with transdermal material

An apparatus and a method of making a corded earplug, including a flexible cord material having a particular cross-section. An earplug having a nose portion for insertion into the ear and a handle portion extending from the nose portion and lying outside of the ear when the nose portion is inserted into the ear. The handle portion including at least two openings physically displaced from each other. At least one of the openings extends within the handle portion and with at least one of the openings having a cross-section different than the cross-section of the cord material. An end portion of the flexible cord material is inserted into the at least one opening extending within the handle portion. The end portion of the flexible cord material is then inserted into the other opening in the handle portion so that the end portion of the flexible cord material is frictionally engaged along its length to lock the flexible cord material to the rear portion of the earplug because of the difference in cross-section between the cord and the at least one opening having a cross-section different than the cross-section of the cord material.

An earplug dispenser for manual operation by a user includes a bottle member to receive a plurality of earplugs. A dispensing mechanism is located at an open end of the bottle member so that when the bottle member is turned upside down, the dispensing mechanism projects downward and the earplugs fall by gravity to the dispensing mechanism. The dispensing mechanism includes an impeller member having a plurality of impeller openings to have individual earplugs located within the impeller openings by gravity and additionally includes a knob member projecting downward from the impeller and including a ratchet mechanism so that the rotation of the knob provides for rotation of the impeller and any individual earplugs captured in the impeller openings in only one direction. The dispensing mechanism also includes a separate dispensing opening and a chute located adjacent the knob member and in line with the impeller openings so that as the knob is rotated progressive ones of the impeller openings containing individual earplugs are directed above the dispensing openings to allow the earplugs to fall out of the dispensing mechanism through the chute into the hand of the user.

A seal for use within the interior portions of a piston, primarily on a diesel engine which has a pressurized oil supply which is forced upwardly through the connecting rod and sprayed on to the upper portion of the piston. The seal substantially closes the area between the connecting rod and the interior sidewalls of the piston skirt. The oil is thus restricted in flow, building up pressure within the top portion of the piston and causing the oil to contact the upper interior portion for cooling the piston and further, forced to lubricate the bushings on the wrist pin.
