A primer formulated with a colorless dye detectable only under black light is provided. The present invention is non-detectable on a porous surface and color does not appear over time upon exposure to natural or synthetic lights. Under black light, sometimes referred to as ultra violet energy or long wave black light, the colorless dye appears as purple. However, once the black light is removed, the primer ceases to glow and returns to its natural, colorless state.

Colorless primer composition and method

A sealant is provided that possesses many or all of the characteristics of conventional thread sealants, and allows application with improved smoothness and uniformity of application. Sealants in accordance with the invention utilize engineered fibers such as melamines like Basofill and polyaramids such as Kevlar in its composition. Engineered fibers offer consistency and uniformity that other previously used sealants lack. Engineered fibers can improve the gap filling characteristics of the sealant, as well as the resistance of the sealant to chemicals and high pressures. Engineered fibers tend to have very high strength and low density.

Adhesive compositions are described which comprise at least one organic sulfoxide, sulfone or sulfide and at least one ketone, ether, ester, amide or carbonate or a mixture thereof. The adhesive compositions also may contain one or more water insoluble polymers such as ABS, PVC and CPVC. Methods of adhesively bonding or welding a first plastic surface to a second plastic surface using these adhesive compositions also are described.

Adhesive compositions and methods of using the same

An anti-corrosion composition for use with a liquid or the liquid resulting from the addition of components is provided. The composition can include an acid, a phosphate ester of an alcohol, an inorganic phosphate, a salt of polyacrylates and a salt of an organophosphonate. The composition can be used with anti-freeze compositions or heat transfer fluids and advantageously exhibits enhanced corrosion resistance properties. A heat transfer medium is also provide, having water, glycol, an ester of a phosphoric acid, a phosphate salt and an acid, wherein the medium is a GRAS composition capable of satisfying ASTM 1384 and 4340.

Generally speaking, in accordance with the invention, a putty is provided that can include many or all of the handling characteristics of a traditional plumber's putty, but with reduced staining qualities. Such putty can facilitate substantially stain free installations. Putties in accordance with the invention can contain combinations of polymers or oligomers, solvents, fillers and optional rubbery materials. A composition according to the invention is preferably sufficiently stain-free to be used on porous stone, such as marble and granite, without damaging the appearance of the stone. This is achieved by eliminating oil completely, or at least substantially, or restricting their ability to cause stains sufficiently. Because compositions of the invention can be made to be free of oils, they can also have the effect of eliminating the greasy feeling to the hands, which can occur when handling traditional putty. Putties in accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention can provide a degree of tackiness for adhesion and gap fill purposes during installation, as well as a degree of abrasiveness so that pressure from the tightening process will not cause the putty to slip. Of these benefits, one particularly important advantage is the lack of staining on most, if not all, surfaces traditionally used to finish kitchens and baths, including porous stones and other porous materials, such as unglazed ceramics.

Putty composition and method

A refractory furnace cement is provided, that can be formulated to be air setting and substantially free of silica. The composition can be formed with a refractory agent, a rheology modifier, a corrosion inhibitor, a binder, such as a sodium silicate type binder, a flocculating agent and various inorganic fillers, to promote thermal stability, shelf stability, appropriate setting times and cold mortar strength.
