A foot-operated propulsion system for small watercraft, such as kayaks. The propulsion system includes a pedal assembly that controls motion of a fluke fin that is submerged beneath the waters surface. The pedal assembly is located in the bow of the watercraft and the paddler works the pedals with his feet. Operating the pedal assembly causes a force to be transmitted to a drive unit located in the stern of the craft, which then controls movement of linkages in the fluke assembly, to force the submerged fluke fin to swing upward and downward, emulating the motion of flukes on a whale, and thereby propelling the watercraft along the surface of the water.

A power converter includes a housing, heat generating circuitry in the housing, and a heat conducting metal sheath on the outside of the housing. The housing has an elongated-box shape including two relatively smaller ends and four relatively larger sides and a heat-conducting metal sheath on the outside of the housing. The heat conducting sheath covers substantially all of the four relatively larger sides.

A multiconductor snake wiring system which uses a flexible bus structure with taps for providing connections to the components is disclosed. An automated facility for manufacturing the snake wiring system is also described. A compact multilayer wiring structure for connecting the components and a unique process for manufacturing the wiring structure are also disclosed.

Interconnection system

A method for soldering a first component having a metal surface to a second component having a metal surface includes holding the metal surface of the first component in a position above a placement area on the metal surface of the second component to establish a gap between the surfaces. The method further includes reflowing solder within the gap. A structure including a thermally conductive baseplate, an electrical insulator attached to the baseplate, and a metallic shield mounted on the insulator. The structure also includes an integrated power device having a power-dissipating electronic device, and a first metal layer connected to the shield through a solder joint. A substrate includes an aperture, and the integrated power device is mounted with the power-dissipating device sitting within the aperture. The substrate also includes a conductive run electrically connected to a second metal layer of the integrated power device. A method for use in making a package for electrical circuits includes attaching an electrical insulator within a recess of a first metallic component. The method also includes registering a second metallic component within the recess using a template tool and bonding the second metallic component to the insulator. A third component is soldered to the second metallic component. A structure including an electrical conductor and a sheet of conductive material including a punt soldered to the electrical conductor.

A connector for a pin includes a support ring, and a contact ring of fingers that are (i) connected to and integrally formed with the support ring, (ii) held in a space within the support ring, (iii) define a channel within the contact ring for receiving the pin, (iv) are resilient with respect to the outer support to apply radially inward forces on the pin, and (v) have a curved inner profile to increase the surface area in contact with the pin. A resilient element may be placed in the space between the support ring and contact ring.

The circuit board lies generally parallel to the lower internal surface with the electrical components held in an internal space between the circuit board and the upper internal surface. Conductive terminal pins extend from outside the enclosure into the internal space and are connected to the circuit board by conductive links, each link having an end attached to the periphery of the circuit board and another end projecting into the internal spaces. In other aspects, a resilient non-compressive encapsulant is used to fill a space within the package; an electronic component is mounted with a power-dissipating device sitting in the aperture of a circuit board, a power-dissipating surface in contact with a baseplate, and contact pads electrically connected to a circuit board; terminal pins are connected to a circuit board using a fence connected at the periphery of the circuit board, the fence extending substantially perpendicularly to the circuit board, the fence comprising at least two conductive links joined by a severable junction.
