A sensor for sensing bioacoustic energy includes a housing comprising an interfacing portion configured to establish coupling with a body part during use. The sensor includes a transducer element coupled to the interfacing portion of the housing and configured to sense sounds produced by matter of biological origin. One or more conductors are coupled to the transducer element. A mass element is compliantly coupled to a surface of the transducer element. Intervening material is disposed between the transducer element surface and the mass element, and allows for differential motion between the transducer element surface and the mass element during excitation of the transducer element.

Weighted bioacoustic sensor and method of using same

A sensor for sensing bioacoustic energy includes a housing comprising an interfacing portion configured to establish coupling with a body part during use of the sensor. An anchoring arrangement is defined on the housing. A transducer member has an anchoring end and at least one free end. The anchoring end of the transducer is coupled to the housing such that the transducer member is arranged to be preferentially sensitive to bioacoustic energy transferred to the transducer via the interfacing portion relative to other portions of the housing.

A fluid permeation testing apparatus provides for filling a first cavity of a test cell with a test fluid and filling a second cavity of the test cell with a challenge fluid. The challenge fluid comprises at least one analyte useful for testing permeation of the challenge fluid through a test film that separates the first and second cavities. Samples of the test fluid in the first cavity are introduced to a mass spectrometer, such as in a pulsed manner, without substantially changing the total pressure in first cavity. Samples of the test fluid in the first cavity may be introduced to the mass spectrometer while maintaining substantially balanced total pressures in the first and second cavities.

Fluoroalkene-nucleophile adducts for analysis and removal of fluoroalkenes

A method for removing one or more fluorinated alkenes from a fluid comprises the step of contacting the fluid with an N-, S-, or P-containing nucleophile for a time sufficient to form an N-, S-, or P-containing nucleophile-fluoroalkene adduct. The nucleophile, and therefore the adduct, can be covalently bonded, coated or sorbed to a particulate support which can be enmeshed in a porous, fibrous web. In a preferred embodiment the fluorinated alkene can have the formula ##STR1## wherein A=F or R.sub.f ; X=H, F, Cl, R.sub.f, or YR.sub.f ; Z=H, F, Cl, or R.sub.f ; and Y=O, N, or S; with the proviso that at least one A=F, and at most one of Z and X is H; wherein each R.sub.f is independently selected from the group consisting of highly fluorinated or perfluorinated alkyl groups; and a combination of any two R.sub.f groups can be linked to form a cyclic structure. The R.sub.f alkyl chains may contain from 1-20 carbon atoms, with 1-12 carbon atoms preferred. The R.sub.f alkyl chains may be straight, branched, or cyclic. Preferably, R.sub.f is CF.sub.3, C.sub.2 F.sub.5, or C.sub.3 F.sub.7.
