Well completion system providing for an enhanced bond between a well casing and the surrounding cement sheath. The system comprises a casing string disposed within a well extending to a subterranean location within the earth's crust. A metal ribbon is disposed about the outer surface of the casing to provide a wrapping having a series of helical turns along the length of the casing. A cement sheath in the annulus about the casing encompasses the wrapping and enters into openings therein to provide a bond between the cement and the outer surface of the casing. The metal ribbon may take the form of an expanded metal ribbon having a staggered mesh structure so that a portion of the ribbon stands off from the surface of the casing.

Well completion system and process

Well completion system providing for an enhanced bond between a well casing and the surrounding cement sheath. The system comprises a string of casing disposed within a well extending to a subterranean location in the earth. A wrapping of a metal wire is disposed about the outer surface of the casing in a conformation providing a plurality of helical turns which crisscross on another. A cement sheath in the annulus about the casing encompasses the metal wire to provide an enhanced bond between the cement and the outer surface of the casing. The wire may be provided with a plurality of protrusion elements which extend into the cement sheath to further increase the casing cement bond.

A method of grain-orienting the crystal structure of a layer of semiconductor material by application of a raster scanning electron beam to a layer of polycrystalline semiconductor material which has been previously formed on a substrate, such as by sputter-plasma film deposition. The method comprises electron beam lithography computer-applied to the crystal growth and orientation of a polycrystalline thin sheet of silicon or other semiconductor material.

Corrosion at the interface of concrete and reinforcing steel in a concrete structure is determined by placing a hollow hydrogen-permeable probe in the concrete, connecting a getter-ion pump to the probe, and monitoring the output current of the getter-ion pump. An increase in output current is indicative of corrosion occurring at the probe-concrete interface, which in turn is indicative of corrosion at the interface of concrete and steel reinforcing members at comparable locations in the structure.

An insertion-type hydrogen probe with a defined active length is described. The probe is formed of a thin-walled, hydrogen-permeable material, and a hydrogen-impermeable liner inside the probe blocks out all but the defined active section of the probe. The interior of the probe is subjected to high vacuum, and the hydrogen permeation through the active portion of the probe is determined, for example, by the current output of an ion pump used with the probe. To prevent bimetallic cell interface effects, the probe is constructed so that only a single metal is exposed to the primary environment being studied.
