Bathtub hand rail

A bathtub hand rail having a molded plastic body with a hand-grip portion and a lower portion. A lip extends downwardly from the lower portion, and has a first surface for placement against a first side surface of the bathtub side wall. A second surface of the lip has a recess therein with a semicircular top wall, two vertical side walls, a bottom wall and a back wall. Extending through the lower portion of the body is a longitudinal rectangular slot. Received within the slot is a horizontal arm of a clamp arm assembly. A vertical arm of the clamp arm assembly has pivotally attached to it a press plate for placement against a second side surface of the bathtub side wall. The horizontal arm and the vertical arm are attached to one another. A threaded rod, which is pivotally attached to a locking handle at a head portion, is threaded into threaded receiving means in the horizontal arm through an orifice in the recess. As the locking handle is rotated, the threaded rod is threaded further into the horizontal arm and the press plate is drawn securely up against the second side surface of the bathtub side wall. The locking handle is then pivoted down into a seated position in the recess. An over-center clamping mechanism arrangement insures that the locking handle remains seated in the recess. Because the width and height (length) dimensions of the locking handle are less than comparable dimensions of the recess, the locking handle cannot rotate when seated in the recess, and therefore the threaded rod cannot be turned.

An improved axillary crutch is disclosed. The crutch has two inter-connected hollow-tube frame members. The bottom frame member is radially shaped at the end which comes in contact with the floor, the radial design of the bottom frame member being derived from the natural arching motion of the crutch. A radial crutch tip is fitted over the radial end of the bottom frame member. The bottom frame member telescopes into the top frame member. A bolt within the handle of the crutch passes through apertures in each frame member and is secured by a wing nut. The height of the crutch is changed by removing the bolt, telescoping the bottom frame member into or out of the top frame member and resecuring the bolt at the desired location. The handle can also be moved relative to the crutch by removing the bolt, changing the position of the handle, and securing the handle at the desired location by reinserting the bolt. Adjusting the crutch height and the handle height both can be accomplished in one step.

Axilliary crutch

An attachment for a walking cane to serve as audible alarm producing means and as a light projection lamp. The attachment has a hollow casing for mounting onto a cane so that a vertical portion of the cane protrudes from the front section of the casing and the horizontal portion of the cane protrudes from the rear section of the casing. Inside the casing, is a switch connected in circuit with an audible alarm producing device, a lamp and batteries. The switch is operable externally of the casing for selectively sounding the alarm or lighting the lamp. The casing has quickly separable and reengageable sections providing access to the interior or the casing for servicing the batteries. The sound actuating circuit may be arranged to modify the sound produced by the alarm device to increase its attention getting effect.

A lift chair for a disabled person has a seat comprising a stationary horizontal rear seat portion and a rotatable front seat portion to support a person in seated position. The rotatable front seat portion is rotated between a horizontal position and an elevated position by a drive means including an electrically driven motor. The rotatable seat portion may carry a seat pad which overlays the rear seat portion. The chair may have a fixed or movable back. The movable back may carry a back pad and may be operatively connected by frame members to the drive means to rotate upwardly when the front seat portion rotates upwardly and forwardly. An assembly may be provided for adjustably elevating the seat to accommodate persons of different heights. A sling is provided between the back and the front seat portion to close the space defined therebetween when they are rotated upwardly.

An adjustably positioned handgrip assembly for an ambulatory aid includes an elongated rigid body having an axial cylindrical bore for receiving a cylindrical tube end of the ambulatory aid. The body has an oval portion of maximum size at one end tapering gradually to a plane of minimum oval cross section near the other end, then gradually becoming circular to terminate in a circular portion at the other end. A plug insert which fits into the tube end of the ambulatory aid has notches selectively engageable with lugs in the cylindrical bore of the body for securing the body in any one of a plurality of angular positions on the tube end of the ambulatory aid. An axial bore attaches the body of the handgrip assembly to the ambulatory aid.
