Disclosed is apparatus for use with an RFID proximity card and with a steel door and frame assembly. The door is of the type having a magnet and the frame is of the type having a bore, which, when the door is closed in the frame, presents towards the magnet. The bore is of the type provided to permit the mounting of a magnetic door contact in the frame. The apparatus comprises a sensor assembly which: in use, is received by the bore and grippingly engages said frame; produces a first signal when the card is operatively presented thereto; and produces a second signal when the door is closed to bring the magnet adjacent the sensor assembly and into alignment with the bore.

Security apparatus

Disclosed is apparatus for use with: an RFID proximity card; a frame including a pair of jambs; a door hingedly connected to one of the jambs, the other being hollow and having a rabbet defined by a pair of surfaces, one surface presenting to the closed door and defining part of a stop against which the door is positioned when closed and the other surface flanking and presenting towards the door edge when closed. The other surface width is in the direction which defines the one jamb depth. The one jamb thickness is in the direction which defines the doorway width. The apparatus comprises a sensor which: produces a signal when the card is presented thereto; and has thickness T, width W and height H. T&#x3c;[thickness of other jamb&#x2212;thickness of stop]. W is equivalent to the width of other surface. H&#x3c;doorway height.

A system is disclosed and includes an adapter, an activation apparatus and a sensor apparatus. The adapter is for use with a mechanical key. The adapter comprises a body which includes an RFID assembly and which, in use, is securely coupled to the head of said key. The activation apparatus is for use with a key to which a body is securely coupled and comprises an RFID writer operable to encode said RFID assembly to form an RFID-tagged mechanical key. The sensor apparatus is for use with an RFID-tagged mechanical key and comprises an RFID reader adapted to output data in standard Wiegand format in the presence of said RFID-tagged mechanical key. Methods for use with the system are also disclosed.
