The present invention provides a low battery trouble signal delay circuit for a smoke detector configured for periodically measuring environmental conditions and for producing a fire alarm signal when smoke is detected in the environment. The trouble signal delay circuit has a battery, a comparator configured for receiving a voltage measurement signal from the battery and a reference voltage measurement signal and sending a resulting signal to an activator circuit, at least one activator in the activator circuit that is user activated upon receiving a first input; and at least one low battery trouble signal annunciator connected to the activator circuit and configured for indicating that the voltage measurement signal is below the reference voltage measurement after receiving a signal from the comparator. The activator temporarily disables the low voltage trouble signal when activated for a silencing time period, while maintaining the operation of the fire alarm signal.

Low battery trouble signal delay in smoke detectors

The present smoke detection system uses a single sensor to quickly detect both fast flaming fires and smoldering fires while further reducing nuisance and false alarms. In the present detector, the sensor is preferably an ionization sensor. Specifically, a first algorithm is used to detect flaming fires and second algorithm is used to detect smoldering fires. An alarm is sounded when either algorithm generates an alarm condition. In each embodiment, the first algorithm generates an alarm condition when a sensor output signal exceeds a first threshold. The alarm condition is generated for the second algorithm when the sensor output signal: (1) exceeds a second threshold for T time.; (2) rate of change exceeds a predetermined rate of change threshold; (3) change between time Tand time Texceeds a predetermined change threshold; or (4) sensor signal exceeds an historic standard deviation of the signal multiplied by a predetermined constant.

Apparatus and method for detecting fires

A method of operating an access control system including a remote control system configured to control a lock an a central control system configured to wirelessly communicate with the remote control system. The method includes inputting user data into a user identification reader of the remote control system, and in response to inputting user data, requesting updating a remote user list stored by the remote control system with a central user list stored by the central control system using a wireless communicator of the remote control system and a wireless communicator of the central control system. The method further includes comparing the user data with one of the remote user list and the central user list to determine whether to unlock the lock.

A system and method is provided for an improved sensor for detecting particles in air such as smoke particles from a fire. The detector includes a laser diode that generates a light beam that is spread by a lens to fill a specific area of the interior of a sensing chamber before entering into a light trap for extinction. The detector consequently has a better signal to noise ratio and therefore may be more sensitive than prior art detectors. The detector may also use a shorter wavelength laser to allow the detector to sense smaller particles than prior detectors and consequently provide faster response to flaming fires.

System and method for an optical particle detector

One aspect of the disclosed embodiment is a method and system for conserving battery life in a wireless access control system. This disclosed embodiment comprises a wireless access control system with a lock having an electronic controller and a piezo electronic driven locking mechanism. The electronic controller controls voltage to the piezo electronic locking mechanism. The preferred embodiments of the present invention provide an improved access control system that provides additional security for the connection between an existing locking system and an access control system, for example, to prevent tampering. The security system preferably includes a control line shield to protect a control line running from an access reader to an external lock incorporated in a door, for example. The control line shield seals the control line into the interior of the door to prevent easy access for interference and tampering Additionally, the control line shield may be removed as necessary to provide service to the access system.
