An apparatus for surgical fusion of a cranio-cervical junction includes a plate member, where the plate member includes a bottom portion configured to be secured to a cranium; a top portion including a plurality of perforations extending therethrough configured to promote bone growth, wherein the top portion and the bottom portion define a graft accommodation space; and first and second side portions coupled to the top and bottom portions on first and second sides of the graft accommodation space. The first side portion is configured to receive a first support rod and the second side portion is configured to receive a second support rod.

Craniospinal fusion method and apparatus

A method for effecting reduction, stabilization and enhancement of fusion of the human cranio-cervical junction, which may be performed in order to relieve mechanical stresses imparted to the spinal cord and brainstem as a result of an abnormal clivo-axial angle, includes steps of achieving the correct craniocervical relationship, of effecting a fusion of a first portion of a bone forming material based structural member to a human cranium, and effecting fusion of a second portion of the bone forming material based structural member to a least one portion of a human cervical spine. The system includes a cranial spinal attachment system that anchors one or more surgical instruments to a cranial surface using at least one cranial clamp and cranial fastener. The cranial spinal attachment system may be positioned along a perimeter of a cranial defect.
