In one example embodiment, disclosed is a biaxially oriented multilayer film, which may include a first tie layer and a second tie layer, wherein each has an inside surface and an outside surface. The film's core layer may consist of: (i) at least 50 wt. % high-crystalline polypropylene; (ii) both cyclic olefin copolymer and polypropylene homopolymer, or, polypropylene heterophasic copolymer; (iii) and, optionally, additives, wherein the core layer is between the inside surface of the first tie layer and the inside surface of the second tie layer. The film may also include a first skin layer on the outside surface of the first tie layer and a second skin layer on the outside surface of the second tie layer, wherein shrinkage is less than 3.5% in a transverse direction for the biaxially oriented multilayer film after subjecting the biaxially oriented multilayer film to 135&#xb0; C. for 7 min at 1 atm.

Heat-stable, biaxially oriented, polypropylene films

This disclosure provides compositions and methods for a film, which may include a base film and a coating layer on the base film, wherein the coating layer has a surface energy of at least 30 dynes/cm and consists essentially of nylon, polyester, ethylene vinyl alcohol-based copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol-based polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinylchloride, acrylate-based polymers, methacrylate-based polymers, polyurethane, polyalkylimine, acid-modified polyolefins, polyetherester-amide block copolymer, and combinations thereof. Further, the film may include a metal oxide layer on the coating layer, wherein the metal oxide layer has an optical density of equal to or less than 0.5 and a thickness from 0.1 nm through 100 nm. Further still, the film has an oxygen transmission rate of less than 4 cm/m/day at 23&#xb0; C. and 0% relative humidity, a water vapor transmission rate of less than 4 g/m/day at 38&#xb0; C. and 90% relative humidity, and a thickness of 5 &#x3bc;m through 50 &#x3bc;m.
