A method for semi-continuous casting of a strand of steel in a strand casting machine and a strand casting machine that carries out the method, the method includes pouring liquid steel into a mold while closing off the mold by a bar to form a fully solidified strand start area followed by a partially solidified strand; extracting the partially solidified strand from the mold; supporting and guiding the partially solidified strand in the strand guide; at the end of the casting, ending the pouring of liquid steel into the mold and forming a strand end; extracting the strand end from the mold; ending the extraction of the strand end; ending the secondary cooling; providing controlled or regulated cooling of the partially solidified strand until full solidification of the strand; and discharging the strand from the strand casting machine.

Semi-continuous casting of a steel strip

A cooled strand guide roller () mounted at more than one location for guiding a metal strand (S) in a continuous casting machine, and a method for cooling a strand guide roller () mounted at more than one location. An internally cooled strand guide roller () is mounted at more than one location. The height of the strand guide roller () is intended to be adjustable easily and quickly. The strand guide roller () has a collecting bar () for supplying the strand guide roller () with cooling water. The collecting bar () includes a plurality of brackets (). Between two successive brackets (), there is at least one coolant pipe () for fluidically connecting the brackets (). An outer bracket () has at least one first connection () for internal cooling of the cooled strand guide roller () and at least one second connection () for cooling the bearing blocks (). The first connection () is fluidically connected to the ducts () of the individual rollers () and the second connection () is fluidically connected to the bearing blocks () via the brackets ().

Cooled strand guide roller mounted at more than one location

A roll () for supporting and conveying hot material, including a roll element that has a roll jacket () made of a basic material and a wear coat which is applied to the basic material by means of a surface welding process () using a welding additive which surrounds the surface of the roll jacket. In order to increase the service life of the wear coat, improve the resistance to wear, and reduce the cost for producing the welded-on surface. The basic material of the roll jacket () is steel and contains up to 0.45 percent of C. The welded-on surface () is designed as a single-layer weld, and the wear coat contains 12.5 to 14.0 percent of Cr at least in an external zone that surrounds the surface of the roll jacket. Also disclosed are a method for producing the roll (), a method for repairing a used roll (), a welding additive and a welding rod for producing the welded-on surface.

Process for producing a roll for supporting and conveying hot material, process for repairing a worn roll

A device for interchangeable connection of a casting tube to a spout of a melt vessel with a sliding closure fastened on a melt vessel. The closure is formed by at least one stationary closure plate and a closure plate that can be displaced relative thereto, wherein the displaceable closure plate is coupled to a sliding drive system and carries the casting tube. To improve the changeover process of a casting tube and to make it safer, the displaceable closure plate carries a connecting ring for the centered accommodation of the casting tube and the displaceable closure plate carries a changing device for the casting tube. The changing device is synchronously displaceable with the displaceable plate. A tensioning device presses the casting tube onto the displaceable closure plate.

Apparatus for the interchangeable connection of a casting tube to a spout of a melt vessel

In order to be able to carry out a multiplicity of continuously recurring activities at a continuous casting plant having at least one multifunction robot for implementing a plurality of different process-controlled or automated interventions at the continuous casting plant, at least one working region at the continuous casting plant and at least one multifunction robot assigned to each working region. The multifunction robot is arranged on a pivotable arm at a rotary column fastened to the pouring platform of the continuous casting plant and the robot can be pivoted with the pivot arm between a retraction position and a working position. The robot is also movable with respect to its arm.

Continuous casting plant having at least one multifunction robot

In the case of a strand guiding roller with at least one roller shell and with at least two supporting shafts, two supporting shafts being respectively connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a roller shell and each supporting shaft being rotatably supported in a supporting bearing, to achieve a type of construction that is simple and can withstand the high thermal and mechanical loading that occurs, it is proposed that the roller shell is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the supporting shafts carrying it on both sides by shrink-fit connections or by press-fit connections.

Strand guiding roller

An internally cooled strand-guiding roll for a continuous casting installation, having a central rotatable shaft and at least one roll shell supported fixed against rotation on the shaft. To make the strand-guiding roll better able to withstand the mechanical and thermal stresses, to ensure that it is suitable for large strand widths and to enable maintenance work to be carried out, the roll shell has coolant passages passing through it, and the coolant passages are arranged in the roll shell at a constant distance from the cylindrical roll shell outer surface of the roll shell and preferably at the area between the shaft and the roll shell. It is preferable for at least one water guide ring to be arranged between the roll shell and the central shaft.

Internally cooled billet guiding roller

A continuous casting mold for continuous casting of a steel billet. Opposite spaced apart wide side walls and opposite spaced apart narrow side walls between the wide side walls and clampable at the wide side walls and also displacable along the wide side walls transversely to the casting direction, the narrow side walls being narrow wedged-shaped in the casting direction. A funnel-shaped pouring-in region defined in the wide side walls. The wide side walls converge in the casting direction. The distance between the wide side walls at the mold end is constant over the entire width of the side walls allowing at least one of the wide side walls is supported to be displaceable and tiltable with respect to the other wide side wall by an adjusting device.

Continuous casting mold

In a continuous-casting apparatus with a mold-supporting device ( ) and a mold ( ) mounted to oscillate relative to the supporting device, the mold ( ) is supported via guide elements ( ) extending approximately transversely to the direction of oscillation arranged approximately parallel to one another and, relative to the direction of oscillation (III), at a distance ( ) one above the other. At least one first guide element ( ) extends from the mold-supporting device ( ) towards the mold ( ) in a first direction (I) and at least one second guide element ( ) extends from the mold-supporting device ( ) towards the mold (I) in a direction (II) opposite to the first direction (I).

Device for continuous casting

A continuous casting mold for casting a strand has side walls defining an open-ended mold cavity. In order to increase the casting speed while maintaining a simple mode of construction of the continuous casting mold, the latter has the following characteristic features: at least two oppositely arranged side walls are rigidly fixed relative to each other about a pour-in section of the mold cavity and have a conicity decreasing in the running direction of the strand and, in a run-out section of the mold cavity arranged to follow the pour-in section in the running direction of the strand, include side wall sections movable relative to the strand and pressable at the strand by pressing devices, which side wall sections are arranged at a slighter conicity than the slightest conicity of the side walls of the pour-in section of the mold cavity.

A continuous casting mold includes an oscillation mechanism and a guiding mechanism supporting the continuous casting mold relative to a stationary supporting structure, the guiding mechanism being formed as a disc-shaped spring. In order to ensure perfect guidance by employing a simply structured oscillation mechanism and to markedly reduce the masses to be moved, at least one disc-shaped spring formed as an annular disc peripherally surrounds the continuous casting mold, which annular disc by the inner edge region is connected with the continuous casting mold and by the outer edge region is connected with the stationary supporting structure.

A continuous casting mold having side walls through which a coolant flows includes a hydraulically operated oscillation device and a guiding device supporting the continuous casting mold relative to a stationary supporting structure. In order to do with a structurally very simple oscillation device having slight masses to be moved and to markedly reduce the space required by the oscillation device in the vicinity of the continuous casting mold, the oscillation device includes a pulsator setting the coolant into a pulsating pressure course and a supporting device is provided between the continuous casting mold and the stationary supporting structure, resiliently acting in accordance with the pulsating pressure course of the coolant and absorbing oscillation forces.
