A method and a device for monitoring a rotational speed of a first charger for an internal combustion engine, especially an exhaust gas turbocharger, are provided. A first exhaust value representing an exhaust gas composition of the internal combustion engine in a first exhaust section is defined, and a first speed value representing the rotational speed of the first charger is determined according to the defined first exhaust value. The first exhaust value is regulated to a predefined first reference value using a first correcting variable which is ascertained as required for regulation. The first rotational speed value is determined depending on the first correcting variable.

Method for monitoring the speed of a bi-turbocharger

The invention relates to a method for controlling an actuator which can be displaced between two end positions, said actuator being impinged in one end position and being capable of displacement to the other end position by an electromagnetic part. The actuator is first supplied with an electromagnetic current using a pulse-duration modulation in a retaining mark space ratio. Once the application of current has ended, an oversaturation of the electromagnet is taken into consideration, either by influencing the application of current in the mark space ratio in an appropriate manner, or the oversaturation is completely prevented by a suitable configuration of the application of current.

Method for controlling an actuator, using a retaining mark space ratio

An internal combustion engine has a camshaft whose phase can be adjusted with respect to a crankshaft by means of a setting mechanism. Also provided are a crankshaft sensor which senses the crankshaft angle and a camshaft sensor which senses the camshaft angle. The method comprises the following steps: A reference value for the phase is adapted in a predefined position of the setting mechanism when a predefined condition is satisfied. A measurement value for the phase is determined depending on the sensed crankshaft angle and camshaft angle. A corrected measurement value for the phase is determined depending on the reference value and the measurement value for the phase. A control signal for controlling the internal combustion engine is determined depending on the corrected measurement value.

Method for controlling an internal combustion engine

The oil temperature in the internal combustion engine is calculated using an oil temperature model, which draws upon at least one parameter that characterizes the operating point of the internal combustion engine. The differential value between the modeled temperature value of the oil temperature model and the measured temperature value of the oil, which is measured by the oil temperature sensor, is included as an input variable in the oil temperature model during an iterative calculation cycle of an oil temperature value of the oil temperature mode, said calculation cycle directly or indirectly following the method step involving the calculation of the differential value.

Method for determining the oil temperature in an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has a camshaft with an adjustable phase position relative to the crankshaft. Upon starting the internal combustion engine, the phase position is derived from a crankshaft angle detected by a crankshaft sensor and a camshaft angle detected by a camshaft sensor. If the phase position is within a predetermined threshold of a predetermined phase position, a correction value is calculated based on the deviation of the phase position, otherwise, the actual phase position is equated to the phase position derived from the crankshaft angle and the camshaft angle in an emergency running mode. During normal operation the actual phase position is calculated based on the phase position, derived from the crankshaft angle and the camshaft angle, and the correction value. In the emergency running mode, at least one control signal for an actuator is determined as a function of the actual phase position.

Control of internal combustion engine based on phase position of camshaft relative to crankshaft

An actuator which is displaced by a force in one end position and is displaced into the other end position by an adjusting device that is controlled using a pulse duration modulated signal. If a quasi-stationary condition is identified, in which despite repeated control intervention the actual position of the actuator lies outside a targeted range around the desired position, the retaining pulse duty factor which is used by the adjusting device to main the actuator in one position is modified based on the distance from the desired position. If drift is identified, the drift behavior is determined and the retaining pulse duty factor is modified according to said drift behavior.
