A calender, a system, and a method of regulating the humidity in a calender. The calender includes a housing having at least two side pieces and a roll stack located at least partially between the side pieces, wherein a space is formed by the roll stack and the web between the side pieces, and a fan positioned to blow dry air into the space. The system is for regulating the humidity in a calender, the calender being used to treat a moisture-containing material web and including a housing having at least two side walls and a roll stack, the calender defining a space bounded at least by the roll stack, the web, and the at least two side walls, and includes a device for reducing the humidity of the space, wherein the humidity level in the space is reduced to a level which is below a saturation point. The method includes reducing the humidity of the space, wherein the humidity level in the space is reduced to a level which is below a saturation point.

Calender humidity control system and method

A process for presetting a calender for a material web and a calender. The calender includes a roll stack having at least a first nip and a second nip arranged to define a stack plane and comprising a sag compensation lower roll having a rotationally secured carrier which can be moved along the stack plane by external support devices arranged at both ends of the lower roll, the lower roll having a jacket which is supported on the carrier by internal support devices wherein the jacket can be adjusted along its entire length in the direction of the stack, the calender further comprising at least one middle roll which can be adjusted in the stack plane and a sag compensation upper roll having a carrier which is held stationary at its ends and a jacket which supported on the carrier by internal support devices, the jacket being mounted to the carrier at its ends. The process includes applying pressure to the internal support devices of the lower roll such that the jacket of the lower roll approximately forms a cylinder having a horizontal axis, applying pressure to close each of the first and second nips, the pressure being applied to one of the external support devices of the lower roll and the internal support devices of the lower roll, and recording the pressures on at least one of the internal support devices of the upper roll, the internal support devices of the lower roll, and the external support devices of the lower roll at an instant of a complete closing of the first nip.

Process for presetting a calender and calender for implementing the process

A process is provided for operating a calender roll including a roll jacket surrounding an inner chamber. The process includes creating an active oscillation in the inner chamber that acts upon the roll jacket. By creating an oscillation within the calender roll, the appearance of undesired bar rings, which form on the external surface of the roll jacket due to operational exciting forces, is avoided. Furthermore, calender roll is provided including a roll jacket surrounding an inner chamber, and at least one actuator provided within said inner chamber acting upon said roll jacket.

A web guidance device for a calender and a method of threading a web through a calender. The web guidance device is for a roll stack having several rolls which form a plurality of nips, and includes a movable web guidance device which is fixable in at least one insertion position and arranged on at least one side of the roll stack, wherein the web guidance device guides a beginning of the web through the roll stack. The method is for threading a material web through a calender which has a roll stack having at least a first nip and a second nip, and includes feeding a web beginning through a first nip from one side of the roll stack, engaging the web beginning on the other side of the roll stack with a web guidance device, and guiding the web beginning to a second nip with the web guidance device.

The present invention relates to a calendar for treating a material web. In an exemplary embodiment, first and second roll stacks have first and second deflection adjustment rolls on an end thereof, respectively. Each of the first and second deflection adjustment rolls has a sleeve lift, and a sleeve supported by a deflection adjustment device on a fixed bracket. The first and second deflection adjustment rolls are adjacent to each other to define an additional nip therebetween that can be at least partially closed by the sleeve lift. An effective direction of the deflection adjustment device of the first deflection adjustment roll alternatively points toward the first roll stack and the second deflection adjustment roll, and an effective direction of the deflection adjustment device of the second deflection adjustment roll alternatively points toward the second roll stack and the first deflection adjustment roll.

Calender for webs of paper or a similar material

Calender for a fibrous material web and method of operating a calender for a fibrous material web. The calender includes a first roll stack and a second roll stack each arranged in a common plane on a stanchion, each roll stack having a top deflection adjustment roll having a sleeve, a bottom deflection adjustment roll having a sleeve, and three intermediate rolls disposed between the top deflection adjustment roll and the bottom deflection adjustment roll, the uppermost the intermediate roll being fixedly mounted to the stanchion. The calender further has a deflection adjustment device having a sleeve lift supporting each sleeve, at least one deflection adjustment device facing the first roll stack in a first operative position and facing the second roll stack in a second operative position. A nonrotatable bracket supporting each deflection adjustment device and fixedly mounted to the stanchion is also provided. The bottom roll of the first roll stack and the top roll of the second roll stack are disposed adjacent to each other and adapted to form a nip therebetween by closing a sleeve lift of at least one of the bottom roll of the first roll stack and the top roll of the second roll stack. Also provided is a method of operating a calender for a fibrous material web.

Calender for fibrous material webs and method of operating same

Process and apparatus for glazing a material web so as to influence or control the transparency of a material web. The material web is guided through at least one nip which is formed by a roller having an elastic covering made, in particular of a plastic reinforced with fibers or appropriate fillers, and an opposing roller. In one embodiment, a primary orientation of the fibers in the covering is selected as a function of the desired glazing result. In another embodiment, the roller surface has uniform nonhomogeneous hardness distribution over a substantial portion of its rolling surface.

The coating includes an elastic material and a colorant adapted to change a color of the elastic material in accordance with a temperature of the elastic material.

A calender roll system and method for operating the same. The calender roll system includes a roll stack having at least one center roll positioned between two end rolls, in which each of the at least one center roll and the two end rolls have a drive mechanism, and in which the rolls can be loaded in a stacking direction. The method includes loading the rolls to form at least one working nip with at least one center roll, and, in the at least one working gap, bending the at least one center roll out of the plane of the roll stack. Reaction forces required to bend the at least one center roll are generated by corresponding adjustment of drive moments of the at least one center roll.

Calender for a web, process of forming the calender, and process of treating a web in the calender. The calender includes rolls having rotational axes and a roll stack composed of the rolls. The rolls of the roll stack are arranged such that the rotational axes are positionable in a horizontal plane. The calender also includes levers. The rolls include end rolls and middle rolls, the middle rolls being coupled to the levers. The calender also includes force devices positioned to exert a force on the levers. The process of forming includes arranging the rotational axes of the rolls in a horizontal plane, coupling levers to the middle rolls arranged between the end rolls of the roll stack, and coupling force devices to the levers. The process of treating the web includes guiding the web through the roll stack, pressing an end roll of the roll stack in a horizontal direction toward the other end roll of the roll stack, and adjusting a line load between adjacent rolls of the roll stack.

Roll for a paper calender. The roll includes a core having opposed end faces and a barrel intermediate the opposed end faces, the barrel having a barrel region. Also included is an elastic cover extending over a working width of the core and a plurality of roller pins, each roller pin engaging a respective end face and having a pin region. Also provided is a temperature control device adapted to supply heat to and/or dissipate heat from the pin regions to a first temperature, and further adapted supply heat to and/or dissipate heat from the barrel region to a second temperature, wherein the first and the second temperatures are different. The present invention also provides a calender that employs such a roll having an elastic cover. Additionally provided is a process for operating such a roll having an elastic cover.
