In order to ensure particularly good protection of individuals in an electromagnetic transport system, a safety area is provided in a transport area. Furthermore, a safety function is provided which, in accordance with a predetermined safety requirement level, ensures that the transport unit reaches the safety area at a speed less than or equal to a safety speed and/or with a transport unit force less than or equal to a safety force and/or a transport unit energy less than or equal to a safety energy, or prevents the transport unit from reaching the safety area.

Safety function

To provide an illuminator, which offers reliable protection against undesirably high levels of emitted light intensity, there is provided on the illuminator according to the invention, in addition to a light source and a control unit, which supplies the light source with an electric current or an electric voltage and is equipped to regulate the intensity of an emitted light via the electric current or the electric voltage, a detector, which captures at least a performance variable of the light source. In addition, a diagnostic unit is provided, which compares the at least one performance variable against at least one specified limit value and triggers an action, which reduces the intensity independently of the control unit, as soon as the at least one performance variable reaches or exceeds the at least one limit value.

Illumination device with diagnostics

The invention relates to a method for actuating a mode selection switching element of an installation by means of a safe control operation, wherein the installation has a functional controller and communication connections, and wherein the functional controller has a storage unit, a (sequence) control apparatus, a display and a user interface. The method has the following steps: providing a mode-selection actuating element on a user interface; receiving a user input to change the operating mode at the user interface; transmitting the data relating to the change of operating mode to the mode-selection switching element; transmitting the data relating to the change of operating mode from the mode-selection switching element back to the functional controller; checking whether the operating mode of the data which have been transmitted back matches the operating mode selected by the user; transmitting a confirmation to the mode-selection switching element; and changing the operating mode by means of the mode-selection switching element.

Method for actuating a safe switching element of an installation

In order to provide simple, fast, and reliable verification of the functioning and processing of an automation task in the form of software in a multi-channel safety-oriented automation component (), the software (SW) is run in one channel (K) of the automation component () in an active unit (P) of the hardware of the channel (K), and first diversity software (SW) redundant relative to the software (SW) is run in a verification unit (V) in this channel (K), wherein in a processing step (Z) input data (E) associated with the software (SW) and first output data (A) computed by the software (SW) in this processing step (Z) are temporarily stored in a memory unit (M), and the diversity software (SW) in the verification unit (V) computes second output data (A') based on the stored input data (E) independently of the processing of the software (SW) in the active unit (P), and the second output data (A&#x2032;) computed by the diversity software (SW) is compared with the stored first output data (A) of the software (SW) in order to verify the processing.

Method for verifying the processing of software

Safe bus devices use a safety protocol in order to transmit safe data encapsulated in an industrial Ethernet message via an Ethernet-based field bus. However, this restricts the safe bus device to a certain combination of safety protocol and industrial Ethernet protocol. In order to be able to use a safe bus devicemore flexibly, it is provided that, to transmit the safety-oriented data, the industrial Ethernet protocol uses the session layer 5 and/or presentation layer 6 of the safety protocol, which is independent of the industrial Ethernet protocol, instead of the session layer 5 and/or presentation layer 6 which is implemented in the industrial Ethernet protocol, whereby such a bus devicebecomes independent of the industrial Ethernet protocol.
