A headlamp includes an adjusting mechanism for adjusting a reflector (3) of the headlamp about at least one axis (8). The adjusting mechanism comprises a threaded nut (9) attached to the reflector and a threaded shaft (12) which is rotatably mounted on a stationary part (1) of the headlamp. Adjustment of the reflector is displayed by a scale-like indicator mechanism which includes a fixed part (24) and an adjustable part (15). According to the invention, the adjustable part is formed of an idling toothed wheel (15) that meshes with a pinion (21) of the threaded shaft but which can be disengaged therefrom by axial displacement of the toothed wheel.

Headlamp for a motor vehicle

A resinous plastic reflector unit (1) is mounted on a receiving member (8) by at least a first and a second joining member (9, 10) to be adjustable at least about one axis. The second joining member is clamp-like and is self guidingly shoved onto a wall member (16) on a rear side of a reflector bowl (2, 3). Wall strength of the wall member is not substantially greater than wall strength of a thin wall forming the reflection bowl. The wide side surfaces of first and second such wall members run perpendicular to one another. A joint between the first and second joining members lies, when viewed in an installation direction of the reflector bowl, aligned behind a thin wall portion of the reflector unit.

Vehicle headlight

A mount for a headlight reflector includes three pivot-point mechanisms, at least one of which comprises a spherical head at an end of a pivot-mechanism pin mounted in an elongated socket formed on a receiver rigidly attached to the reflector. The axis of elongation of the pivot-mechanism pin is approximately parallel to an optical axis of the headlight and an axis of elongation of the socket is perpendicular thereto, with one end of the socket being open to allow ingress and egress of the spherical head. A side of an elongated shell forming the socket has a slit therein facing a back wall of a headlight housing through which the pivot-mechanism pin passes. In one embodiment of the invention, an outer end of the pivot-mechanism pin is coupled to an adjusting bolt which is parallel to the pivot-mechanism pin by means of a moveable bridge. In another embodiment, a power automatic light-distance adjusting mechanism can be mounted on the bridge for providing additional longitudinal movement to the pivot-mechanism pin.

The invention concerns a vehicle headlight with a reflector that is made out of a plastic with a high content of filler to increase its thermal stability and that is mounted in an accommodating component in such a way that it can be adjusted around at least one axis consisting of two ball-and-socket like pivot points. The articulating bushing for each ball-and-socket joint is shaped like a sleeve and inserted into a sleeve-shaped extension shaped onto the reflector. The outer surface of the sleeve-shaped articulating bushing is lightly tensioned against the inner surface of the sleeve-shaped extension by means of readily deforming sections. The articulating bushing has at least one resilient snap-in nose mounted radially in relation to the axis of the sleeve on the end of a resilient arm and engaging an undercut in the wall of the sleeve-shaped extension. The resilient arm is longer than the wall of the arm is thick by a multiple factor.
