In a method to operate a printer or copier to print to a printing substrate, or in such a printer or copier, toner concentrate is extracted from a toner concentrate reservoir and carrier fluid is extracted from a carrier fluid reservoir. The extracted toner concentrate and carrier fluid are supplied to a mixer where mixing occurs to form a developer mixture. The developer mixture is applied to a developer roller with aid of an electrical field. Given an exchange of least one of the toner concentration reservoir and the carrier fluid reservoir, a strength of the electrical field is modified such that a predetermined desired inking of the printing substrate is maintained even given a change of a toner concentration in the developer mixture due to the exchange.

Method to operate a printer given exchange of a reservoir

In a digital printer, print groups are provided each having a respective developer station using liquid developer comprising carrier fluid and toner. A supply arrangement to supply the print groups is provided with fluids and to accept used and unconsumed fluids from the print groups. The supply arrangement has a first supply unit common to all print groups to supply the print groups with the fluids, at least one reservoir containing a carrier fluid. A second supply unit per color supplies the respective print group for the color with liquid developer. The second supply unit comprises a first buffer container connected with a reservoir, the reservoir containing carrier fluid and concentrated toner as toner concentrate. A second buffer container for carrier fluid is connected with the carrier fluid reservoir in the first supply unit. A mixing unit is connected with the first and second buffer containers for mixing together the liquid developer, the mixing unit being connected via a feed pump to supply the liquid developer for the color to the respected developer station of the respective print group.

Digital printer with supply arrangement to supply print groups with fluids and to accept used and unconsumed fluids

In a method to operate a digital printer having multiple developer stations operated with liquid developer, and wherein a number of the developer stations participating in printing is dependent on a respective print operating mode, liquid developer is supplied from a mixing container to at least one of the developer stations. With a regulatory device a fill level of liquid developer in the mixing container is kept substantially constant depending on the print operating mode. A desired different operating value is provided for the fill level for the regulatory device depending on the operating mode.
