An indirect extrusion press has a die and die holder 20 and a sealing plate to close the billet carrier. After extrusion, a one-piece or two-part holding sleeve is placed between the sealing plate and the sealing stem and the latter is advanced to push the billet carrier over the die stem thereby expelling the sealing plate, the butt end of the billet, and the die holder into the sleeve. A shearing device then shears off the sealing plate and butt end, the second part of the holding sleeve moving aside with the sealing plate and butt end in it. The die holder is clamped in the holding sleeve which is pulled away from the billet carrier to separate the die from the extruded product. In the case of a one-piece holding sleeve, a transverse aperture is provided to allow the shearing operation.

An extrusion press having a press stem which can be articulated to a limited extent at its base mounting in order to allow the stem to be exactly aligned with a billet containing bore; a centering sleeve provided at one end of the bore to guide the stem; and corresponding convex and concave surfaces at the base mounting which can slide over one another to permit the articulation.

Extrusion press

An extrusion press for indirect extrusion has a sealing plate at one end of the bore of the billet container. This sealing plate extends a certain distance into the bore where it provides a seal against the wall of the bore. The plate also has a recess for accommodating a dummy block during extrusion, and a piston is provided behind the sealing plate to push the dummy block and butt end out of the recess at the end of extrusion.
