A fluid purification system is provided for contaminated fluids such as air ontaminated with a wide spectrum of chemical warfare agents which includes two adsorption chambers with adsorption medium suitable for effectively removing chemical warfare agents from a stream of air; a valve selection device adapted for directing a stream of contaminated air to one or the other of the adsorption chambers, for directing a stream of contaminant-free air from the adsorption chamber, for directing a stream of regeneration fluid to one or the other adsorption chambers requiring regeneration and for directing a fluid stream with a concentration of contaminants from a regenerated adsorption chamber; a fluid stream diverter device adapted for diverting a portion of contaminant-free fluid from one or the other adsorption chambers for use as a regeneration fluid stream for regeneration of the adsorption medium in one or the other adsorption chambers; and a temperature regulation device for heating the regeneration fluid stream to a temperature effective for regeneration of the adsorption medium in the adsorption chambers.

Air purification system

This disclosure is directed to an electrolysis cell forming hydrogen and oxygen at spaced terminals. The anode terminal is porous and able to form oxygen within the cell and permit escape of the gaseous oxygen through the anode and out through a flow line in the presence of backpressure. Hydrogen is liberated in the cell at the opposing solid metal cathode which is permeable to hydrogen but not oxygen so that the migratory hydrogen formed in the cell is able to escape from the cell. The cell is maintained at an elevated pressure so that oxygen liberated by the cell is delivered at elevated pressure without pumping to raise the pressure of the oxygen.

Water electrolysis

The system disclosed is for controlling the iodine level in a water supply in a spacecraft. The system iodinates drinking water as necessary. It includes an iodine accumulator which stores crystalline iodine, an electro-chemical valve to control the input of iodine to the drinking water and an iodine dispenser. A pump dispenses fluid through the iodine dispenser and an iodine sensor to a potable water tank storage. The iodine sensor electronically detects the iodine level in the water, and through electronic means, produces a correction current control. The correction current control operates the electro-chemical iodine valve to release iodine from the iodine accumulator into the iodine dispenser.
