The picking mechanism is provided with two torsion bars. One torsion bar is stressed in order to accelerate a gripper projectile of the loom. The second torsion bar, upon release of the first torsion bar, is temporarily connected to the first torsion bar so that energy can be stored by the second torsion bar via a double-arm lever. During a return motion of the acceleration lever to a picking position, the second torsion bar is relieved of tension by delivering the stored energy to the drive shaft of the picking mechanism via the double arm lever. The picking mechanism thus uses only little energy.

Dual torsion bar picking mechanism for a loom

The weft change motion employs a connecting link between a reciprocating mixer lever and a pivotally mounted mixer segment. During normal alternating weft changing, the link moves from one end position through a neutral position and, under the inertia forces moves towards a second end position. The oscillating movement of the link permits the change motion to alternately feed weft yarns. In order to permit picking of the same weft yarn, a locking device is provided to prevent the oscillating link from moving past the neutral position. The locking device also serves to return the link to the same end position so that the same weft yarn can be picked. Various forms of locking devices can be used including an electromagnet, a movably mounted slide block with an appropriately shaped slot and a slide block employing a rotating disk having an appropriately shaped opening to receive a slide pin.

The guide is used for parts moved as if by a shear force of a weaving machine, particularly a projectile weaving machine. The guide has a body which is reciprocably mounted relative to at least one guideway. In addition, at least one guide element is associated with the body and is movable transversely of the guideway during imposition of an eccentric loading on the body which causes the body to turn within the guideway about the axis of the guideway.

The guide channel of the catching mechanism is provided with a recess into which the foremost projectile can be positioned at the upper end. The projectile is thus permitted to be moved into an upright position parallel to the direction of ejection. Further, the ejector is able to strike against the foremost projectile during ejection over a relatively large surface area so as to reduce the stress of the impact forces on the projectile.

Catching mechanism for a weaving machine

The brake is constructed of a clamp-shaped receiving member into which a gripper projectile penetrates during an initial braking stage. The receiving member is, in turn, slidably mounted between two brake shoes which carry out a further braking action. The complementary braking surfaces of the receiving member and brake shoes may be tapered in order to increase the braking action on the moving receiving member.

The weft yarn storage device has a yarn advancer (15) having a yarn guide in the form of a hollow cylinder (14) which deposits the weft yarn (10) in the form of a loop having two parallel arms (28, 29) on a respective drum (1, 4). To pick the weft yarn an electromagnet (8) is energized, armature (7) thereof disengaging the drums (1, 4) from one another so that the loop (27) released from the drums (1, 4) can be picked by the rotating picking drum (17) and by the picking nozzle (19). The weft yarns storage device makes it possible for weft yarn storage times to be other than 180.degree..
