An implantable pump having a bulkhead, a reservoir structure attached to the bulkhead and upper and lower cases attached to the bulkhead by a single outer seal as well as a method of making such a pump is disclosed. The reservoir structure forms a reservoir that contains fluid drug or other medicaments. The upper and lower cases are attached to the bulkhead by first connecting either the upper or lower case directly to the bulkhead. Then, the lower or upper case not attached to the bulkhead is attached to the upper or lower case that had been previously attached to the bulkhead.

System and method for attaching upper and lower outer cases in an implantable drug pump

A pump for pumping drugs, medicaments or other liquids is disclosed in one embodiment having suture loops co-extensive with the outside surface of the pump. At least one depression is formed in the outside surface of the pump. A wire co-extensive with the outer dimensions of the pump passes over the depression forming a space between the wire and the outside surface of the pump in the depression. In this position, the wire forms a suture loop. The surgeon, when suturing the pump of the present invention in place within a pocket of tissue or other similar location, places a suture between the wire and the outside surface of the pump in the depression to secure the pump. In another embodiment, depressions are created in a pump and a soft material is placed in and attached to the depressions. A suture may then be placed through the material of the soft material and the tissue of the patient in a pocket in the tissue of the patient to affixed the pump in the pocket.

A pump for pumping drugs, medicaments or other liquids is disclosed having suture loops co-extensive with the outside wall of the pump. At least one depression is formed in the outside wall of the pump to strengthen the wall.

Drug pump with reinforcing grooves

A device and method for aseptically filling high pressure reservoirs in medicament pumps is disclosed. The device preferably includes a filter, a connector having a one-way valve and a filling tube with a terminal needle. The filter is connectable to a pharmacy prepared syringe containing a drug to be transferred to the reservoir of the IDIP. The filter is connected to the connector. The connector has a first and a second inlet port fluidly connected to an outlet port. A one-way valve is located in the connector &ldquo;upstream&rdquo; of the point where the two inlet ports connect to the outlet port. The filling tube is connectable to the outlet port. In use, a pharmacy syringe is connected to the first inlet port. A filling syringe is connected to the second inlet port. The filling tube is connected to the outlet port. The terminal needle of the filling tube is passed through the patient's skin and into the IDIP. The practioner draws the drug into the filling syringe from the pharmacy syringe through the connector. When the filling syringe is full, the practioner pushes the filling syringe plunger in thereby forcing the drug out of the outlet port, through the filling tube and terminal needle into the reservoir of the IDIP. The one-way valve prevents the drug from re-entering the pharmacy syringe.
