A support structure () is provided for supporting and spacing apart high-voltage electrical conductors () in an electric machine. An exemplary support structure () includes an improved spacer block () that is configured to reduce electrical flashover, in the form of creep, between adjacent high voltage conductors, without necessarily increasing the width of the spacer block. The improved spacer block () includes a main body () and a protruding portion (), which elongates the creepage path () between adjacent high-voltage conductors to greater than the width of the spacer block ().

Support structure for high-voltage conductors

A method for producing an electrically conductive filler by placing a web of core material onto an interior surface of a web of conductive layer material. The webs of core material and conductive layer material are directed through a forming station for folding the conductive layer around the core. The filler having a substantially non-conductive core and a conductive layer. The conductive layer is wrapped around the core to form a closed loop thereby establishing conductivity from a bottom of the filler to a top of the filler by paths on each of two sides of the filler.

Method of making a conductive filler

An electrical isolation layer capable of inhibiting, if not preventing, a first conductive material from electrically passing or bleeding into a second conductive material and thereby causing a high resistance connection among the conductive materials is provided. Insulation insert for preventing strand-to-strand contact in high-voltage coils

A stator for a power generation system and associated methods are provided. The stator preferably includes a plurality of high voltage stator coils. Each of the plurality of high voltage stator coils preferably includes a plurality of metal strands, a plurality of vent members positioned adjacent the plurality of metal strands, and compact voltage grading means contacting each of the plurality of vent members and the plurality of metal strands for grading voltage between the vent members and the metal strands to thereby prevent an overvoltage condition. The present invention also provides a method of grading voltage between internal vent members and conductive strands of a high voltage coil of a power generation system. The method preferably includes connecting conductive portions of each of a plurality of internal vent members to a plurality of conductive strands of a high voltage coil.

Power system having stator coils for grading voltage between inner vent tubes and coil strands and associated methods

An electrically conductive filler. The filler having a substantially non-conductive core and a conductive layer. Conductive filler

A high voltage stator bar (FIG. ) is used in a power generation system and includes a core section having a core and stator coil , including at least one coil involute. A ground wall insulation layer overlies and surrounds the stator coil. An inner grounding electrode overlies and surrounds at least a portion of the ground wall insulation layer and includes the at least one coil involute. An insulator overlies and surrounds the inner grounding electrode and leaves at least one exposed area of the inner grounding electrode. An outer grounding electrode overlies and surrounds the insulator and is electrically connected to the inner grounding electrode at the at least one exposed area of the inner grounding electrode for relieving a build-up of internal voltage, thereby preventing partial discharge.

High voltage stator coil having low loss insulator and electrode covering and method therefor

The present invention provides a high voltage generator stator coil for power generation systems for preventing partial discharge. The high voltage generator stator coil preferably includes a plurality of metal strands that form a high voltage conductor, conductive resin-rich filler material positioned to make electrical contact with the plurality of metal strands, a conductive inner corona protector positioned to electrically contact and overlie the conductive resin-rich filler material, groundwall insulation positioned to overlie and surround the conductive inner corona protector, and a conductive outer corona protector positioned to overlie and surround the groundwall insulation. The present invention also provides a method for forming a high voltage generator stator coil. The method preferably includes abuttingly contacting a plurality of metal strands in a stacked configuration to thereby form a high voltage conductor having at least a substantially straight portion. The method also includes the step of positioning a conductive resin-rich fleece filler material to electrically contact the high voltage generator stator coil, positioning a conductive inner corona protector to overlie and electrically contact the conductive resin-rich fleece filler material, positioning groundwall insulation to overlie and surround the conductive inner corona protector, and positioning a conductive outer corona protector to overlie and surround the groundwall insulation.

High voltage generator stator coils and methods of forming same

An insulating resin is made containing an epoxy system of epoxy resin: and an epoxy diluent, with a phenolic accelerator selected from catechol or pyrogallol and an organotin latent catalyst selected from triphenyltin chloride, tribenzyltin chloride, tribenzyltin hydroxide or triphenyltin acetate. The insulating resin is solventless and has a viscosity of from 10 centipoise to 450 centipoise at 25&deg; C. for up to eight weeks and can be used as an impregnating resin in slot portions ( ) and of an electrical coil ( ), usually in combination with mica tape, in a motor ( ) or a generator ( ).

Insulating resin of epoxy resin, epoxy diluent, phenolic accelerator and organotin catalyst

A method and apparatus are provided to increase compressive creep capabilities of high voltage coil insulation. The method preferably includes applying at least one layer of a first tape as a groundwall insulation to substantially the entire length of a high voltage coil. The first tape preferably has a first predetermined amount of resin therein. The method also includes curing the groundwall insulation for a first predetermined time period, applying at least one layer of a second tape as a protective armor overlying the groundwall insulation only to end portions of the high voltage coil after the first predetermined time period. the second tape preferably includes substantially more resin than the first tape. The method further includes curing the protective armor for a second predetermined time period. The apparatus preferably includes a high voltage coil having a predetermined length, at least one layer of resin impregnated tape overlying the high voltage coil along substantially the entire predetermined length thereof and defining groundwall insulation, and at least one layer of resin rich (RR) tape overlying the groundwall insulation only along end portions of the coil to define a protective armor. The RR tape of the protective armor being impregnated with substantially more resin than the resin impregnated tape of the groundwall insulation.

Enhanced dielectric strength mica tapes

A catalyzed mica tape used in insulating electrical conducting devices is made from a mica paper bonded to a backing with a bonding resin. The bonding resin is cross-linkable by an addition reaction. The catalyzed mica tape has distributed therein at least a catalyst at a concentration of greater than 0.01 g/m.sup.2 for every 100 g/m.sup.2 of the bonding resin. The catalyst is an organo-transition metal compound, organo-tin compound, or a combination thereof.
