A lifting device utilizing a utility winch having an electric motor and cable drum. The cable on the cable drum extends around a pulley located on a load cell beam. Excessive loads will deflect the load cell beam causing a contact on a micro switch to be engaged to shut off power to the motor. The cable is attached to a trolley which reciprocates along a mast between upper and lower limits. The trolley includes a brake which has a drum which engages the mast to stop in travel of the trolley in the event of a cable breakage. Cable tension is also sensed and cable slack will actuate a switch to interrupt power to the electric motor. Various load handling attachments are detachably securable to the trolley.

An adhesive transfer device and method for selectively making a repositionably adherable substrate from a selected substrate are disclosed. The device comprises a base substrate, a layer of repositionable adhesive disposed on the base substrate, a layer of permanent adhesive adjacent to the repositionable layer opposite the base substrate, and structure providing a release surface. The base substrate and the structure providing the release surface can be moved apart so as to leave both of the adhesive layers on the base substrate with the permanent layer exposed, thereby enabling the selected substrate to be adhered to the exposed permanent layer. The base substrate and the selected substrate can be moved apart from one another so as to separate the base substrate from the repositionable layer and leaving both the adhesive layers on the selected substrate with the repositionable layer exposed, thereby allowing the selected substrate to be repositionably adhered.

Adhesive transfer device

A multi-purpose laminating and adhesive transfer apparatus having a frame supporting rotatably engaging nip rollers. A replaceable cartridge is insertable into the frame and has upper and lower feed rolls which may be a laminate, film or paper, or an adhesively coated film or a film having an affinity for adhesive. The upper and lower feed rolls containing the webs of laminating or adhesive transfer material have tensioning caps which can be adjusted to provide the proper tensioning to prevent the rollers from overrunning as they rotate. Tensioning caps and the cartridges are pre-set and provided to the user. A cutter blade is positioned at the discharge side of the nip rollers and may be actuated to sever the master at any desired location. The apparatus may be operated to apply lamination to either top or bottom surfaces of a substrate or an adhesive to the top or bottom surface of the substrate or to both surfaces.

Master processing apparatus

An arbor for temporarily securing a reel to the shaft of a machine such as an unwind machine. A plurality of blades are extendable and retractable from a cylindrical body by means of an axially shiftable cam assembly. The cam assembly shifts in response to an actuator which is mounted on the end of the support shaft which extends from one end of the arbor. In one embodiment the cam assembly carries annular cam members and in another embodiment the cam assembly defines cam grooves having ramps which receive bearing member in cooperation with aligned cam grooves in the blades.

The present invention relates to an adhesive transfer device for selectively making a repositionably adherable substrate from a selected substrate. The device comprises a base substrate, a layer of pressure-sensitive repositionable adhesive disposed on the base substrate, a layer of pressure-sensitive permanent adhesive disposed adjacent to the repositionable adhesive layer opposite the base substrate, and structure providing a release surface. The release surface is removably engaged with the permanent adhesive layer opposite the repositionable adhesive layer and the base substrate so as to cover the permanent adhesive layer. The nature of the release surface is such that the base substrate and the structure providing the release surface can be moved apart from one another so as to separate the release surface from the permanent adhesive layer and leave both of the adhesive layers on the base substrate with the permanent adhesive layer exposed, thereby enabling the selected substrate to be adhesively bonded to the exposed permanent adhesive layer. The adhesive layers are provided such that, after the selected substrate has been adhesively bonded to the permanent adhesive layer, the base substrate and the selected substrate can be moved apart from one another so as to separate the base substrate from the repositionable adhesive layer and leaving both the adhesive layers on the selected substrate with the repositionable adhesive layer exposed, thereby allowing the selected substrate to be repositionably adhered to a contact surface by engaging the exposed repositionable adhesive layer with the contact surface. A number of various devices embodying the principles of the present invention are disclosed in the present application, including a tablet having a plurality of adhesive transfer sheets, an adhesive transfer cartridge for use with an adhesive transfer apparatus, and a dispenser for dispensing a length of the base substrate.

Adhesive transfer device for making repositionably adherable substrates

The present invention relates to an adhesive transfer device for performing an adhesive transfer operation. The device comprises one or more adhesive transfer sheets. Each of the adhesive transfer sheets comprises a generally flat base substrate providing an adhesive carrying surface, a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive adhered to the adhesive carrying surface of the base substrate, and a generally flat release liner substrate providing a release surface, the release liner substrate being disposed in covering relation over the adhesive layer with the release surface adhering to the adhesive layer opposite the base substrate. The relative strengths of the adhesive bonding between the adhesive carrying surface and the adhesive layer and the release surface and the adhesive layer are such that the adhesive transfer operation can be initiated by moving the release liner substrate and the base substrate relatively away from one another with the adhesive layer remaining adhered to the adhesive carrying surface of the base substrate and then engaging the selected substrate with a portion of the adhesive layer so as to adhere the selected substrate to the adhesive layer portion. The strength of the adhesive bonding between the adhesive layer and the adhesive carrying surface is such that, after the selected substrate has been engaged with and adhered to the portion of the adhesive layer, the adhesive transfer operation can be completed by moving the selected substrate and the base substrate relatively away from one another with the aforesaid portion of the adhesive layer remaining adhered to the selected substrate, thereby allowing the selected substrate to be adhered to a desired surface by engaging the portion of the adhesive layer thereon with the desired surface.

A linerless label system which utilizes a substrate provided in roll form and which is printed on one side with an image overcoated with an adhesive. The opposite surface of the substrate has release characteristics. The web is fed across the surface of an anvil plate. A die engages the anvil plate, cuts the label from the web which label is then transferred to the surface of an item to be labeled, such as a plastic container. Intermittently, a wiper blade sweeps across the surface of the die to prevent the labels from sticking to the die edge. Preferably, the wiper blade carries a lubricant such as a silicon-based grease.

A multi-purpose laminating and adhesive transfer apparatus having a frame supporting rotatably engaging nip rollers which define a nip area. A replaceable cartridge is insertable into the frame and has upper and lower feed rolls which may be a laminate, film, or paper, or an adhesively coated film, or a film having an affinity for adhesive. The frame includes an open front for receiving the cartridge and a rear wall, and the cartridge includes an open rear in substantial alignment with the open front of the frame. The cartridge also includes a top wall, a bottom wall, and a front wall, the open rear providing access to the upper and lower feed rolls and loading of material from the upper and lower feed rolls to the nip rollers. The front wall of the cartridge has an opening therein in alignment with the nip area.

A portable system and method for printing variable information indicia on a reflective sign comprises providing a first polymeric sign component having a surface suitable for receiving a printed image. A definition of an image to be printed on the first sign component is provided to a portable computer. Indicia in the form of images is then rapidly transferred to the surface of the first sign component.
