A pack-off tubing hanger is shown for use in a tubing string extending from a well surface location to a downhole location within a well casing. The hanger body includes an external packing element and gripping slips which support the hanger body within the surrounding casing. A longitudinal passageway communicates hydraulic pressure from the lower end of the hanger to a setting chamber to hydraulically set the packing elements and actuate the gripping slips. A companion concentric tubing anchor is carried within the internal bore of the hanger and connects the hanger to the tubing string leading to the well surface.

Pack-off well apparatus and method

A pack-off tubing hanger is shown for use in a tubing string extending from a well surface location to a downhole location within a well casing. The hanger body includes an external packing element and gripping slips which support the hanger body within the surrounding casing. A hydraulic line communicates hydraulic pressure from the lower end of the hanger to a setting chamber to hydraulically set the packing elements and actuate the gripping slips. The tubing hanger is releasable by a straight upward pull upon the tubing string extending from the well surface to the tubing hanger.

Pack-off well apparatus with straight shear release

A dual seal packer is shown having a central mandrel which carries upper and lower seal assemblies which straddle an outer cage assembly. Rocker type slips are carried in the cage assembly and are set by a single expander ring. Special support surfaces on the slips cooperate with mating support surfaces on the cage assembly to provide support for the slips under tensive and compressive loading. The slips and upper and lower seal assemblies are set in a single step operation by rotating the mandrel to the right while holding tension on the well string from the surface.

Dual seal packer for corrosive environments

A steam generator is located downhole in a well for generating steam to cause viscous crudes to flow out adjacent wells. A packer is mounted above the steam generator. A connector box is located between the packer and the steam generator. An electrical cable extends alongside tubing into the well and into a window in the tubing located just above the packer. The cable extends through a passage in the packer and into the connector box. Feedthrough connectors in the connector box connect the power cable with lead wires extending upward from the steam generator. Cooling fluid passages in the packer allow circulation of cooling fluid from the surface to cool the components. The packer is hydraulically set by water supplied to the cooling fluid passages. A disk ruptures after the packer has been set to enable circulation of the cooling fluid.
