The filter for gel shearing and particle filtration of molten polymer has a first layer of metal fibers of an average equivalent diameter between 8 and 65 &#x3bc;m. The cross-section of the metal fibers has two neighboring straight sides with an included angle of less than 90&#xb0; and one or more irregularly shaped curved sides. The metal fibers have an average length of at least 6 mm. The metal fibers are bonded to each other by metal bonds; where the metal of the metal fibers of the first layer is the bonding agent forming the metal bonds. The filter has a second layer of metal fibers. The average equivalent diameter of the metal fibers of the second layer is smaller than the average equivalent diameter of the metal fibers of the first layer.

Filter for molten polymer filtration

A filter membrane has at its flow in side a first metal fiber web, at least two metal fiber layers, and a fine and at least one coarser fiber layer. The fine fiber layer is located at the flow in side of the filter membrane and the at least one coarser fiber layer is located downstream of the fine fiber layer. The filter membrane has at its flow out side, a stack of one or more first two-dimensional metal structures with constant and regular openings. The filter membrane also has at least one set formed by a second metal fiber web and a stack of one or more second two-dimensional metal structure with constant and regular openings; the at least one set is provided in between the stack of one or more two-dimensional metal structures that are having constant and regular openings, and the first metal fiber web.

Metal fiber web based filter

The invention relates to diesel soot particulate filter cartridge having a central filter cartridge axis. The filter cartridge has a radial flow. The filter cartridge comprises a porous structure. The porous structure is coiled around the central filter cartridge axis. The porous structure comprises non-sintered metal fibers, said fibers having a roughness being higher than 1.7. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a diesel soot particulate filter cartridge. Furthermore the invention relates to a multicartridge diesel soot particulate filter. The flow through the multicartridge diesel soot particulate filter is axial while the flow through the filter cartridges is radial.

A regenerator (), for a thermal cycle engine with external combustion, according to the invention comprises a network of metal fibers wherein a majority of the fibers at least partially encircles the axis of the regenerator. The fibers were part of a fiber bundle which is coiled and sintered thereby obtaining the regenerator.

A filter medium () having an inflow side () and an outflow side () defining a flow direction (). The filter medium comprises at least n consecutive layers Lx of fiber media, x varying from 1 to n, n being more than or equal to 2. L() is the layer of the n consecutive layers closest to the inflow side of the filter medium and Ln () is the layer of the n consecutive layers closest to the -outflow side of the filter medium. For all layers Lx of the at least n consecutive layers, the ratio Hx/(kx*Ax) is substantially identical, wherein Hx is the average thickness of the layer Lx in flow direction, Ax is the average surface area of cross sections according to planes perpendicular to the flow direction, and kx is the permeability coefficient of this layer Lx. The fiber media of at least part of the layers of the filter medium comprises metal fibers.
