Various embodiments relate to a converter controller configured to control a resonant converter, including: an integrator configured to receive a current measurement signal from a current measurement circuit in the resonant converter and to produce a capacitor voltage signal indicative of the voltage at the resonant capacitor; a control logic configured to produce a high side driver signal, a low side driver signal, a symmetry error signal based upon the capacitor voltage signal and the current measurement signal; and a symmetry controller configured to produce a symmetry correction signal based upon the symmetry error signal, wherein the symmetry error signal is input into the integrator to control the duty cycle of the high side driver signal and the low side driver signal, wherein the high side driver signal and the low side driver signal control the operation of the resonant converter.

Combined current sense and capacitor voltage sense for control of a resonant converter

A control arrangement is disclosed for a switch mode power supply (SMPS), the SMPS comprising an opto-coupler configured to transfer, from a secondary side to a primary side of the switch mode power supply by means of an LED current, a control signal indicative of an error between an amplifier-reference-signal and an amplifier-sensed-signal indicative of an actual value of an output parameter, the control arrangement comprising: an error amplifier configured to integrate the error to determine the LED current; and a feedback loop configured to adjust the magnitude of the LED current by modifying the amplifier-reference-signal or the amplifier-sensed-signal in order to reduce the error. A SMPS comprising such a control arrangement, and a corresponding method is also disclosed.

Switch mode power supplies, control arrangments therefor and methods of operating thereof

The present invention relates to a dimmer control circuit () capable to detect whether a phase-cut dimmer is connected using an average signal (VDCI) derived from the mains voltage. The average signal (VDCI) or a signal (VDCI_ls) derived from (VDCI), ranging from a minimum value to a maximum value, is compared to a dimming threshold (Vdim_th) through a phase-cut detecting unit (). The comparison result is used to control the state diagram of a dimmer control logic () by selecting the step dimming mode (STD) or the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD). The output (OUT) of a switching unit () is determined by the state diagram of the dimmer control logic () in such a manner that the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD) is prioritized above the step-dimming mode (STD) and the maximum level of the STD states is depending on the mains voltage and application adjustable.
