The present invention may be embodied as a retrievable device capable of sensing one or more properties of an individual (e.g., chemical or physical parameters, etc.) In use, the retrievable device can continuously determine the chemical concentrations within the vaginal tract. An embodiment of the retrievable device comprises a first housing having a light source and an image capture device, a second housing removably connected to the first housing and having a sensor, and a fitting for retrieving the device. The sensor may be an analyte sensor configured to obtain at least one measurement of a concentration of an analyte in a fluid. The analyte sensor comprises a sensor substance in a sol-gel material so the sensor substance reversibly interacts with an analyte of interest. In addition, the retrievable device can be configured to determine different physical parameters and re-implanted.

Device and methods for in vivo monitoring of an individual

The present invention can be described as an apparatus and cartridge for detecting the presence of an analyte in a fluid. The invention can also be described as a method of detecting the presence of an analyte in a fluid using the apparatus and cartridge. The method comprises the steps of clamping a sensor cartridge into a cartridge receiver of the apparatus, providing fluid to a fluid flow-path of the cartridge, illuminating at least a portion of a sensor, and using a photodetector to detect a change in the optical property of the sensor, wherein the change is caused by the presence or absence of an analyte in the fluid.

Device and method for monitoring and quantifying analytes

A xerogel film exhibiting antifouling properties. The films are made using long-chain alkyltrialkoxysilanes, short-chain alkyltrialkoxysilanes, aminoalkyltrialkoxysilanes, alkylaminoalkyltrialkoxysilanes, dialkylaminoalkyltrialkoxysilanes, and perfluororalkyltrialkoxysilanes as sol-gel precursors. The films can be used as coatings on surfaces to reduce or eliminate fouling resulting from attachment and/or growth of biofoulants such as algae, diatoms, bacteria, barnacles, and biofilms.

Anti-fouling coating compositions and methods for preventing the fouling of surfaces

This invention provides molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the detection of analytes, methods for forming the MIPs and detecting the analyte using the MIPs. The MIP comprises templated sites which are formed using a mimic of the analyte such that a reporter compound can be selectively attached at the templated sites, thus providing a site selectively tagged and templated MIP.

Site selectively tagged and templated molecularly imprinted polymers for sensor applications

A detection device and a method of detection are disclosed. The device may have a sensor array, a detector array, and a sensor controller. The sensor array may have a plurality of sensors, each sensor being responsive to a different analyte of interest. Each sensor may also be able to emit electromagnetic energy. For example, one or more of the sensors may include an LED. One or more of the sensors may include a sensing compound within a xerogel, which is responsive to an analyte of interest. In the method, one of the sensors is turned on, and one or more of the detectors are activated to receive electromagnetic energy emitted from the sensor.

The invention provides a method for determining a suitable drug combination for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes by obtaining data from a Type 2 diabetes population in which all of the Type 2 diabetics are not taking any Type-2 diabetes drugs and obtaining reference levels of glucose supply and insulin demand parameters. Data from discrete samples of Type 2 diabetes populations in which all individuals are being treated with one or more Type 2 diabetes drugs at a therapeutic dose are also obtained, and the effects of the drugs on the glucose supply and insulin demand parameters are used to determine adjustment factors which represent the effect of each of the drugs at the therapeutic dosage, which are used to determined a ratio of a Glucose Supply Index (S) to an Insulin Demand Index (D). The ratio is further utilized in scoring cardiovascular risks for Type 2 diabetics and recommending therapeutic interventions.

Method and system to provide personalized pharmaceutical compositions and dosages

A sensor has a sensor substance, an electromagnetic energy source, and a detector. The sensor substance may be able to emit electromagnetic energy different than that provided by the energy source when an analyte of interest is in contact with the sensor substance and electromagnetic energy is received by the sensor substance. The energy source and the detector may be provided on the same side of the sensor substance. In a method according to the invention, a determination may be made as to whether an analyte is present in a sample. Such a method may provide a sensor, such as that described above. Electromagnetic energy may be provided to the sensor substance using the energy source, and the sensor substance may be contacted with a sample. Electromagnetic energy may be emitted from the sensor substance and received at the detector. The detector may provide a signal indicating the type of electromagnetic energy emitted from the sensor substance. The signal from the detector may be analyzed to determine whether the analyte was detected.

Hybrid anti-fouling coating compositions and methods for preventing the fouling of surfaces subjected to a marine environment

pH-change sensors and related methods are disclosed. One such sensor may have a first ion-sensitive transistor-operational-transconductance-amplifier (the 'first IOTA') and a second ion-sensitive transistor-operational-transconductance-amplifier (the 'second IOTA'). Each IOTA may have an ion-sensitive transistor, a load transistor, and an output. In each IOTA, the drain region of the ion-sensitive transistor may be connected to the drain region of the load transistor. A differential sensor may be connected to the IOTAs, and an output from the differential sensor may indicate a voltage difference between the IOTA outputs. The output from the differential sensor may be used to provide an indication of a change in pH.

pH-change sensor and method

A photonic sensor system is provided. The system generally includes a beta emission source, optionally, a scintillation layer, and a luminophore-containing sensory layer. The system can be embodied in a particle. Also provided are photonic sensor strategies which are highly accurate and photonic sensors which are highly stable.

The present invention provides a reepithelialization/wound healing implant device comprising a barrier layer and one or more polymer layers doped with agents that promote one or more processes in reepithelialization/wound healing. The implant: [a] provides a temporary mechanical/chemical barrier to species within the external environment that inhibit epithelial migration (e.g., unbalanced production/expression of granulation tissue, inhibitory proteins); [b] biodegrades at an appropriate rate while tissue remodeling is occurring; and [c] delivers active cytokines and growth factors in a choreographed pattern to promote reepithelialization.

A device for detection of one or more analytes in a sample is disclosed. The device can simultaneously detect and quantitate multiple analytes in a sample. The device comprises an eletromagnetic radiation generator having one or more chemical sensors thereon. The chemical sensor interacts with or reacts with specific analytes in a sample. The presence of an analyte is detected by a comparison of the spectroscopic properties of the chemical sensor in the absence and presence of the analyte. A method is also disclosed for the detection and quantitation of analytes using the device of the present invention. In addition, a method of making the device of the present invention is also disclosed.
