The invention relates to a diesel internal combustion engine with an exhaust treatment device for the reduction of nitrogen oxides and with a fuel injection system comprising a high-pressure pump and at least one solenoid valve-controlled injection nozzle. The injection nozzle is actuated by an electronic control unit and is intended both for the primary injection, provided for the combustion, and for the additional injection, influencing the effectiveness of the exhaust treatment device. The fuel injection nozzle provided for the primary injection also provides for the secondary injection. The secondary injection takes place as a supplementary injection at the earliest in the region of the end phase of the combustion after the ignition top dead center.

In a fuel injection system arrangement comprising as components for each cylinder of an internal combustion engine a pump, a solenoid valve and an injector mounted on the housing of the internal combustion engine, at least one component of the fuel injection system, preferably the pump component together with the solenoid valve, is mounted on the cylinder head cover with the pump being operated by a cam shaft mounted under the cylinder head cover. The arrangement provides for simple retrofitting and replacement of parts.

Fuel injection system arrangement for an internal combustion engine

A multiway valve, in particular a 4/2-way valve, has a housing provided with an axial hole having a plurality of steps to form four seat elements located one behind the other. The housing includes two end chambers and at least two intermediate spaces between these end chambers, with one of the valve connections opening into each. A spool-type drive pin carrying at least two closing elements is located in the axial hole. The drive pin is guided so as to seal at its one end and is radially supported in the axial hole by radial protrusions at its other end. This drive pin has a longitudinal passage which is connected to the first chamber via radial holes at its one end and to the second chamber via its opening provided on the related end of the drive pin at its other end. The closing elements are partially elastically flexible and interact with the seat elements. The closing elements are configured as sleeve-shaped or annular and each has two opposed sealing surfaces which can be laid on one or other seat element of the associated seat element pair depending on the valve position.

Oil is supplied to operating chambers of the injection-adjusting device by means of a pressure supply pump with an electrically actuatable regulating valve being provided for controlling the flow of oil to inlet of the operating chambers. An electronic control unit is supplied on an input side which signals corresponding to current engine operating parameters with the control unit yielding on an output side thereof a desired value for the regulating valve to apply pressure in a controlled fashion to the injection-adjusting device. An arrangement is provided for measuring the actual value of the adjustment angle at the injection-adjusting device by constant answer-back line provides a feed of the actual value to the control unit. A control unit, depending on whether the desired value is larger with respect to the actual value or whether the actual value is larger than the desired value, yields a first and second signal of a defined magnitude. A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines, with the nozzle including a spring loaded nozzle needle guided in a nozzle body and controlling an injection orifice. An annular chamber is formed on the side of the nozzle needle facing away from the injection orifice, with the annular chamber being formed by the nozzle needle and nozzle body along with an intermediate member of the injection nozzle. The intermediate member includes a needle stop for the nozzle needle. An elastic sealing ring is guided on the nozzle needle and is arranged in the annular chamber. A fuel injection nozzle for air-compressing internal combustion engines, especially a throttle-pin nozzle wherein a nozzle needle, urged against a conical valve seat by a compressing spring, is lifted with respect to the compression spring by a feed pressure in the fuel. A device is provided for rotating the nozzle needle about its longitudinal axis. The device for effecting rotation is arranged between the nozzle needle and a spring disk and is fashioned in such a way and controlled by a stroke motion of the nozzle needle in such a manner that the nozzle needle, during each closing stroke, is further rotated stepwise in one direction by a specific peripheral angle.

A choke pin nozzle for diesel engines in which the choke pin is arranged on a nozzle needle. The nozzle needle is axially guided in a fitted bore in a nozzle body and is braced, through a separate spring plate, on a helicoidal compression spring disposed in a spring chamber or cavity of the nozzle. The spring plate is formed as a component of an intermediate piston which is connected on the nozzle side and guided axially with a seal in a portion of the nozzle. An escape or discharge bore is provided in the intermediate nozzle with the bore opening into the spring cavity. The piston is of a smaller diameter than the nozzle needle. The intermediate piston includes a bearing face which is cooperable with an upper sealing surface of the nozzle needle. A guide bore of the intermediate piston is widened in a stroke zone of the bearing face at least to a diameter of the fitted bore in which the nozzle needle is axially guided.

A fuel injection valve for internal combustion engines, especially for Diesel engines, which is equipped with a valve needle acted upon in the closing direction by a spring and in the opening direction by the pressure of the fed fuel, to which is coordinated a pressure space formed together with the valve housing and adapted to be closed off against the outside by the valve seat of the valve needle; at least one discharge opening is arranged downstream of the valve seat as viewed in the flow direction which represents a predetermined throttle resistance; the injection valve is additionally equipped with at least two pistons kinematically coupled with one another in one direction of movement whereby a pressure space is formed on each side of the pistons; the pistons, on the inlet side, are adapted to be acted upon at least indirectly by the pressure of the fed fuel and, on the outlet side, at least indirectly by a return spring; an unobstructed connection exists between the outlet side piston pressure space of at least one of the pistons with the pressure space of the valve needle while an unobstructed line connection exists from the space defined by a control edge and the pressure space of the valve needle; the outlet side pressure space of the main injection piston is connected with a reservoir by way of a line having a predetermined throttling effect.
