The invention relates to a method for producing a cushion for an orthopedic device, the cushion having at least one fluid-filled volume, wherein the method includes compression molding of a three-dimensional first cushion component made of at least a first material, which is preferably elastic, in a mold that comprises an inner mold and an outer mold, and bonding the first cushion component to at least a second cushion component in such a way that the fluid-filled volume is created.

An injection molded part is formed of a base part and a soft component which includes a cushioning shaped part fastened thereto. Injection (molding is performed without additional connection steps by having the cushioning shaped part have a soft, cast gel body completely covered on its boundary surface with a hard component that is a flexible and elastically deformable material which forms a circumferential flange-like rim protruding laterally beyond the cast gel body. During injection molding the hard component is being surrounded by the material of the base part while shielding the cast gel body from the injected material used to form the base part.

A cushion-like shaped body () having an elastic, gel-like filling () in a thin-walled outer layer () are frequently used as seals, cushions, vibration dampers or shape compensation materials. This shaped body () is to be able to withstand severe strains, distortions, compressions and flexural forces, both in the event of brief severe stress and in the event of prolonged stress. For this purpose, the cushion-like shaped body () has a filling () of a polyurethane having Shore 000 hardness less than or equal to 80 and a compression set less than or equal to 14%, and this filling () is present within a shell having an outer layer () of a soft silicone material having a layer thickness of 0.075 to 1 mm and a Shore A hardness between 3A and 45A. Such a shaped body () is able to return to its original form without lasting elongation after tensile strain at room temperature up to 250%. There is no formation of cracks, detachment phenomena, bubbles, folds or other lasting damage. The elongation does not cause visible detachment between filling () and outer layer ().

Cushion-like shaped body and use thereof

Molding compositions are provided that include a) one or more polyisocyanates, b) one or more polyols, c) one or more catalysts catalyzing the reaction between polyisocyanate and polyol, d) one or more pyrogenically produced oxides of a metal or of a metalloid, and e) at least one or more siloxanes.
