A method for cooling a plant for superconductive cables is provided, where the plant includes two thermally insulated end closures () and at least one thermally insulated, tubular cryostat () arranged between the end closures, in which at least one superconductive cable is arranged. Liquid nitrogen contained in a cooling agent supply is pumped by means of a pump () through a first end closure and the cryostat to a second end closure. At least one vacuum insulated tank () is used for the cooling agent supply, where the tank () contains nitrogen at operating temperature and out of which the nitrogen is pumped. For making available a quantity of liquid nitrogen necessary for operating the plant, the supply of liquid nitrogen contained in the tank () is supplemented during operation or is switched over to another tank () containing liquid nitrogen.

Method for cooling a plant for superconductive cables

A method is disclosed for electrically conductively connecting two superconductive cables. The ends of the two cables are arranged next to each other and parallel to one another, in such a way that their free ends point in the opposite direction, and their conductors are located at least approximately on the same level next to each other. Two conductors of the two cables are electrically conductively connected to each other through electrical contact elements (). The screens () of the two cables () are connected through by separate contact elements () and the two cable ends are treated in this manner for constructing a transmission length for electrical energy are arranged jointly in a housing () of a cryostat so that during operation of the transmission length, a flowable cooling agent with electrically insulating properties flows through a housing () of a cryostat.

Method of electrically conductively connecting two superconductive cables

A method of electrically conductively connecting two superconductive cables includes freeing the conductors and screens of surrounding layers at the ends of the two cables. Subsequently, the ends of the two cables () are placed next o each other and parallel to one another in such a way that their free ends point, in the same direction, and the ends are rigidly connected to one another in this position. The conductors and their screens are electrically conductively connected to each other through electrical contact elements () extending transversely of the axial direction. and the two cable ends treated in this manner are arranged in a housing () of a cryostat when building up the transmission length which, during operation of the transmission length, a flowable cooling agent with insulating properties flows through the housing.

A transmission system is provided with a superconductive cable having three phase conductors and a cryostat, surrounding the phase conductors, and encasing a hollow space, for conducting a cooling agent. For the three phase conductors, a common neutral conductor is provided, being made of electrically normally conducting material, carried out as insulating round conductor and placed outside the cryostat and next to it. The cryostat is made of a circumferentially enclosed, thermally insulated sheath.

Transmission system with a superconducting cable

An arrangement with at least one superconductive cable () and a first cryostat (K) surrounding the cable. A second cryostat (K) is formed around the first cryostat (K) coaxially with and at a distance from the first cryostat (K) for conducting a second cooling agent therethrough. The second cryostat (K) is composed of two pipes () which are arranged coaxially and at a distance from each other and, where a thermal insulation () is enclosed between the pipes, and where during operation of the arrangement a liquefied gas, having a temperature of 112K or less, is conducted through the cryostat (K).

Arrangement with at least one superconductive cable

A superconductive electric cable is provided at least one superconductive conductor having strips or wires, which are wound in at least one layer around a carrier constructed as a pipe. The pipe is elastically deformable in a radial direction with changeable diameters and has a gap extending in a straight line along a circumferential line of the pipe over its entire length.

Superconductive electric cable

A method of managing thermal contraction of a superconductor cable () having a cable body surrounded by an external screen (A) made form wound metal elements and installed between its ends in an enclosure () or cryostat filled with a cryogenic liquid, where the method includes mechanically applying a locking force loading only said screen (A) at a so-called locking point (A,B) in the vicinity of the ends of the cable.

Method of managing thermal contraction of a superconductor cable and arrangement for implementing this method

A superconductive cable with a central superconductive conductor (), a surrounding dielectric () and a surrounding superconductive return conductor (). The central conductor () is formed from a single ribbon carrying superconductive material into a tube with a longitudinal extending slot () with the two edges of the ribbon abutting to each other. A ribbon () made of semiconductive material is wound around the central conductor () with at least one layer.

Superconducting cable

A superconducting electrical cable is specified, which is surrounded by a cryostat (), which comprises two concentric metallic tubes () which enclose thermal insulation between them and is used to carry a cooling medium. The cable has at least one superconductor (), which is composed of superconducting material, as well as a normal electrical conductor (), which is composed of normally conductive material and is electrically conductively connected to the superconductor. The normal conductor () is arranged outside of but resting on the cryostat ().

Superconducting electrical cable

An arrangement for an electrically conducting connection of a superconductive electric cable with a cable having normal conductivity at room temperature is provided, which includes a passage with an electric conductor surrounded by a thermal insulation. The conductor of the superconductive cable is connected to an end of the conductor of the passage, at whose other end a cable having normal conductivity can be connected. On the end of the superconductive cable intended to connect to the conductor of the passage an electrode is mounted serving the electric field control. At least in the area of the electrode a cryostat is present which surrounds it, which is constructed as a circumferentially closed sheath of electrically insulating material with a vacuum free, thermal insulation. The end of the sheath facing the passage is placed during the state of operation of the arrangement at high voltage potential, while the other end is connected to ground potential.

Arrangement with a superconductive cable

A superconductive cable includes a superconductive conductor (), a dielectric () enclosing the latter and a superconductive screen () arranged over the dielectric acting as a spacer. The cable is enclosed with the inclusion of an air gap by a cryostat () which consists of a metal inner tube (), a metal outer tube () and super insulation () arranged between them. An intermediate metal tube (), which is closed all around over its entire length, is arranged over the screen () while leaving a gap () from the cryostat (). A medium which is fluid at room temperature, and to which a constant pressure is applied, is introduced as an impregnating medium for the dielectric () into the space between the conductor () and the intermediate tube (), and at least one refrigeration unit for supplying a liquid refrigerant is connected to the gap () between the cryostat () and the intermediate tube ().

System having a superconductive cable

A superconductive electrical cable is provided, which comprises a conductor consisting of superconductive wires. The conductor (L) is designed as a stranded conductor in which the wires () are stranded together with a predetermined pitch length (S) lying between about 5&#xd7;D and about 20&#xd7;D, where D is the diameter of the stranded conductor.

Superconductive electrical cable

A termination for a superconductive cable () is provided, consisting of a pressure-tight metal inner container () in which there is a liquid refrigerant and into which the cable protrudes, and a metal outer container () which is separated from the inner container by an intermediate space () in which vacuum insulation is applied. A first rupture diaphragm () is applied in the wall of the inner container () and a second rupture diaphragm () is applied in the wall of the outer container () level with the first rupture diaphragm (). An evacuated relief space (), which contains superinsulation and is sealed from the intermediate space () with the vacuum insulation by a pressure-tight wall (), is provided between the two rupture diaphragms ().

Termination for a superconductive cable

A superconductor cable is described, having a superconductive flexible cable core () , which is laid in a cryostat (), in which the cable core () runs in the cryostat () in the form of a wave or helix at room temperature.

Superconductor cable

A superconductor cable includes a superconductive cable core () and a cryostat () enclosing the same. The cable core () has a superconductive conductor (), an insulation () surrounding the same and a shielding () surrounding the insulation (). A layer () of a dielectric or semiconducting material is applied to a central element () formed from a normally conducting material as a strand or tube and a layer () of at least one wire or strip of superconductive material is placed helically on top. The central element () and the layer () are connected to each other in an electrically conducting manner at the ends of the cable core ().
